    Total Overdose

Game » consists of 4 releases. Released Sep 26, 2005

Total Overdose is an arguably racist action game that mixes gameplay elements of GTA and Max Payne in a Mexican-style cocktail.

Lots and lots of fun, a few laughs, but not much else.

Total Overdose: A Gunslinger's Tale in Mexico is an underrated game. It didn't take off in its initial release, and the PSP rework released as Chili Con Carnage didn't do that good either. But if a videogame's main purpose is to be entertaining, this game should get a 10/10. It's campaign is about 4-5 hours long, and there are some fun side quests. But the amount of fun you have during those 5 hours is undescribable. Its fast paced, funny, absurd, with a tongue-in-cheek attitude that doesn't take itself or its plot seriously.
This game has alot to offer. It has a US/Mexico border setting, and its awesome. Except for the long loading times between neighbourhoods, the city is awesome and there is alot of fun to be had and stuff to be blown up. Some of the side quests are awesome and absurd. Max Payne has nothing on this game, how can you compete with shooting mexican wrestlers (LUCHA LIBRE!!!) with machine guns disguised as guitar cases in bullet time???
The style of the game rocks. The plot is full of cliches and KNOWS IT, and as a result doesn't take itself seriously. The problem I have with games like Max Payne or Gears of War is that their plots are movie rip-offs, but they don't want to admit it. The plot in Total Overdose is so absurd it is bordering with self parody.
On the downside, there are alot of technical problems. The graphics simply suck, but they can be justified with the game's style; of course character and car models are simpilistic, but maybe they're supposed to. The engine is weak, the drawing distance is short, pop-ins are frequent, and clipping issues plenty. And the long loading times between the city neighbourhoods are really annoying.
The soundtrack is rock solid, with American and Mexican tracks thrown in that are just awesome songs. I can't get the main menu music out of my head!
Total Ovedose: A Gunslinger's Tale in Mexico is excatly what its title suggests. Its a gunslinger's tale, set in Mexico, on drugs, and its quiet awesome. GTA and Max Payne meet while they're both high on crack. Now thats a blub you want to use on your game's box!
