Microsoft and Twisted Pixel Fall In Love, Get Hitched
Well, Twisted Pixel was an interesting company while it lasted! Looking foreward to all the avatar clothes and DLC they get to work on full time now!

What a terrible opening paragraph. I don't even wanna read the rest now.
You didn't miss much. I don't think Alex actually explained what was happening, he was so caught up in his attempts to make jokes about it.
Are they now first party? Officially second party? Do they remain autonomous? Who knows, and really, what does it matter when you get to picture Chainsaw playing the part of Beyonce in the Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) music video.
Microsoft has been leaking studios so its good to see them acquire someone who makes sense, they need someone who knows how to make decent Kinect games. I actually expected them to pick up Harmonix before they bought themselves because locking them down to develop Dance Central made sense to me.
Awesome, couldn't be happier for them. Hopefully this means they get more support, both money and marketing wise

This this this and this. I have no idea what happened in this article.
I get trying to have style and not just regurgitate press releases, but a three paragraph extended joke to start your article might be a bit much.
You're all freaking out over nothing. I enjoyed the article even if it was derived of any actual news you couldn't extract from the obviously joking headline. And while we're on the subject of jokes, if you can't handle a little poke in the belly then stop calling yourself the Pillsbury Doughboy (don't click links to articles that are obviously going to have jokes in them). It's not hard. Maybe Giantbomb isn't for you?@onan said:

Has there been any official word as to whether they're first/second/third party?? does it really matter? they're getting funding to do what they do best and that's make interesting, entertaining, obscure games.

No one's freaking out, there was just no news in this newspost. Re-read it. It's cute, but it just assumes you already know what happened and is cracking jokes about it. This is the first time I've seen this on Giantbomb. Alex usually jokes around about the news more than most writers on this site, making his style more like what you'd see on Joystiq, but in this case it wasn't clear what happened. It even makes the attempt at comedy suffer because you're not clear what the joke is in reference to.
For the sake of comparison:
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/microsoft-buys-indie-developer-twisted-pixel/
And that was written by Justin McElroy, a man who writes some of his game reviews in the form of goofy short stories. He made clear that Microsoft has fully acquired Twisted Pixel, and still makes the same marriage gag Alex makes. He also addresses the concerns people are having about the whole Rare-getting-gutted thing in this thread in the same article.
All I'm saying is the fact I had to go to another site to get my news because I didn't understand what was being implied by a newspost on Giantbomb. It doesn't mean I "can't handle it" or the site isn't for me. It's just not a good thing for Giantbomb from a business standpoint if they're driving traffic elsewhere to get clued in about what's going on in articles on their homepage.
edit: I just re-read the story myself. Did Alex write a reaction article to Justin McElroy's article on Joystiq? It seems to be his source for this information. That makes a lot more sense.
Great, time for Microsoft to ruin another developer by shackling them to the Kinect. (R.I.P. Banjo-Kazooie...)
Alex, I love ya bub, but damn. Not once in your article did you simply state "Microsoft buys/partners with Twisted Pixel". You kept using euphemisms for it and it dosent seem like a professional article. I do dig your sense of humor, but in a news report, turn it down a bit.
For those particularly fond of Twisted Pixel's unique identity within the game industry, this might sound an alarm of change forthcoming.
Not until you say it over and over again and write up a whole news article about it. I'm also not sure why video game journalists feel the need to allay any fears I might have, though I guess that's more a problem with entertainment news than just video games.
For those particularly fond of Twisted Pixel's unique identity within the game industry, this might sound an alarm of change forthcoming. However, speaking to Joystiq, Microsoft's Phil Spencer made it clear the company has no interest in messing with a good thing.
Oh, good. That makes this way different than all those times large corporations have purchased smaller companies and then released a statement saying, "Oh, yeah, we're only interested in the brand name. We're going to gut this sucker like a fish. Really get in there and micromanage, change their whole corporate culture, and of course let a bunch of people go."
I mean, seriously, what do you EXPECT him to say? It's not that I expect that Microsoft is actually going to change things at TP-- at least until/unless they release an underperforming game at which point all bets are off-- but these sorts of "reassuring" statements mean exactly zip and null.

Soooo forget their games every coming out for the PC then?
Microsoft's supposed to be launching this XBL for the PC thing at some point, so maybe not!

Microsoft has a very long history of going out of its way to screw over gaming on PC. So I will believe otherwise when they finally do something good for PC as a gaming platform.
Again with the child brides? Here's hoping their newfound second-party wealth means a budget line for hair gel, and not just extra barrels of moustache wax. (Unless it's exploding moustache wax.)

Did you mean to say PS3? Because lots of Microsoft-published games are on Windows. ;)
"I lived through the integration of FASA, through Bungie, the integration of Digital Anvil..."
I have bad news for you dude. Two of those companies were shut down less than five years after you bought them, and one fled after you made them make the same game over and over again for a decade. Not exactly inspiring words right there.

You only noticed that Alex is unable to communicate without bad analogies now?
