UltraMantis Black

Training and Debut

Trained by Mike Quackenbush and Reckless Youth Tom Carter, UltraMantis was a product of the first graduating class from the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory and made his debut for the wrestling promotion on May 25th, 2002.
 
Initially debuting as the tecnico insectoid superhero UltraMantis, he soon renamed himself UltraMantis Black and turned rudo, betraying his previous ally Mr. ZERO and forming The Dark Breed, allying himself with his close follower, Hallowicked.  During their initial run, UltraMantis used a strange totem to seemingly control the actions of Hallowicked during matches, directing brutality against all opposition that confronted them.  
  

Becoming a Regular

Following a long period of injury in 2005, during which Hallowicked began to exclusively team with Delirious as Team Incoherence and UltraMantis was relegated to acting as a pure commentator, he formed The Order of The Neo-Solar Temple with the giant Crossbones acting as his enforcer alongside the mini-man-monster, Hydra.  Initially, an exact goal for The Order was unclear, other than crushing the tecnicos and winning the Campeonatos de Parejas (CHIKARA's tag team championships).  
  

The Rise and Fall of The Order Of The Neo-Solar Temple

The trio of UltraMantis, Crossbones and Hydra soon became an entertaining fixture on the undercard at CHIKARA shows, rudo antics such as "The Hydralock Challenge", wherin UltraMantis would select a person from the audience (usually a baby in a stroller or the massive Crossbones, wearing a womans wig) and challenge them to break Hydra's full nelson hold.  UltraMantis would also start his tradition of decimating members of the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory (the training school) as well as other inexperienced talents that were new to the promotion.  Amongst his outrageous abuses of his status were recklessly dropping Tim Donst on his head in Donst’s CHIKARA debut and utilizing a dangerous Praying Mantis Bomb to defeat the returning and characterless Create-A-Wrestler. Towards the end of the year, Mantis and Hydra would grow apart, with Mantis inexplicably coming to the aid of tecnico stalwart Shane Storm and hinting that he would soon disband The Order of The Neo-Solar Temple and join the tecnico locker room.   
 
These hints soon proved to be all a swerve, Tim Donst joined The Order under the careful watch of Mike Quackenbush to find the answer as to how UltraMantis Black and fellow rudo Chris Hero were suddenly able to reverse the feared "CHIKARA Special" submission hold.  Donst discovered that it was Shane Storm, Quackenbush's tag partner, who had betrayed the tecnicos and instructed UltraMantis in the art of escaping the hold.  Upon this information surfacing, Donst left The Order, taking Hydra with him to form his own team.  The Sea Donsters. 
   

Restoration of The Temple and The Eye of Tyr

In 2009, The Order sought to restore it's strength by adding a new third member to the group, one that would help them win the promotions largest annual tournament: King Of Trios.  Many were tried, but all were unsatisfactory and they were unable to help The Order even qualify for the competition, let alone win it. 
 
Mike Quackenbush, recognizing the weakness of the depleted stable, began to threaten UltraMantis Black, who then revealed that his actions of the past year were with the long term goal of possessing The Eye of Tyr, a norse artifact of legend that had the power to control minds.  Using this artifact, he kidnapped Delirious and The Order embarked on a ferocious winning streak, bulldozing several of CHIKARA's best teams in the process.   
 
Unfortunately for UltraMantis Black, major changes were coming to CHIKARA thanks to his actions.  Though warned by Dr. Cube of the dangers of The Eye of Tyr, he refused to surrender the artifact.  Soon, strange things began to happen.  A hooded man dressed in white began to appear at CHIKARA events, warning UltraMantis that a war was coming and that he must return The Eye of Tyr.  Clearly shaken, UltraMantis entrusted the artifact with Vocoder, a strange cyborg that had recently debuted in the Young Lions Cup tournament.   Vocoder then became the fourth member of The Order as they marched towards a Campeonatos de Parejas opportunity. 
 
At the final show of 2009, Three Fisted Tales, UltraMantis was again confronted by the hooded man, at this point accompanied by a huge monster of a man.  They again demanded that The Eye of Tyr be handed over to them.  The locker room emptied in a strange show of support against the invading duo only for them to remove their masks, revealing former arch rival of Mike Quackenbush, Ares and a hulking monster of a man called Tursas.  At this point chaos broke out as members of the CHIKARA locker room revealed themselves to be allied with the interlopers and together they decimated the CHIKARA faithful in a brutal assault.  At the conclusion of the event, Vocoder revealed himself to be Tim Donst in disguise, he had fooled UltraMantis Black once again and revealed The Eye of Tyr to be in the possession of the newly formed Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (BDK). 
  

Singles Competition and War With The BDK

The start of 2010 saw many new challenges for UltraMantis Black.  First Delirious was taken from him and recruited by Ares and the BDK, then his long-serving ally, Crossbones as injured by Delirious, leaving him one man alone.  He had been ostracized from the rest of CHIKARA for bringing the BDK upon them and slowly realized that in order to restore The Order to it's position as the top faction in CHIKARA, he would have to take down the BDK, the evil which he had brought upon the promotion.
