English Release
Before MangaGamer began publishing Umineko, a group named witch-hunt created English fan translation patches for each episode as they were still being released from about 2008-2011. These translation patches worked with any fully paid version of the game and the author of the series, Ryukishi07, even gave his support to the group's translations. In fact, Ryukishi07 was so impressed by witch-hunt's efforts that he added an in-game reference to the fan project in the series' fourth episode, Alliance of the Golden Witch. In the aforementioned episode a character identifies himself as a "witch hunter", a theorist whose aim is to uncover the mysteries surrounding the events that occurred within Rokkenjima. Since then MangaGamer has teamed up with the witch-hunt group to release official English editions of Umineko on Steam that use an edited and more polished version of the team's scripts, beginning with the release of The Question Arc collection in 2016.
