A Chain Chomp (or Chomp) is a common enemy in the Mushroom Kingdom, first appearing in Super Mario Bros. 3. They resemble ball and chains, and behave in a very dog like manner, to the point where they even bark.
A species of chicken-like creatures that appear in the Legend of Zelda series. They are terrified of Link, but will band together and wreak terrible vengeance if provoked enough.
A Directed Escape is an interactive gameplay sequence where the player is unable to successfully fight back or otherwise survive, and is forced to flee to the next checkpoint to resume normal play.
Dry Bones are skeletal Koopa Troopas that have been reanimated through magical means. Their ability to reform after being knocked apart can make them quite troublesome.
Enemies that prefer to keep a distance to the ground, and swoop down occasionally to do some damage.
A situation in a game where a character will be defeated no matter what action the player takes. The character may be defeated in a cutscene or the player may be forced to fight until they are defeated.
Fuzzys are parasites that suck HP to heal themselves.
Gordo is an enemy from the Kirby series. While not aggressive he is completely indestructible and must be avoided.
A concept where players have the ability to conceal themselves from enemies. Common hiding places in games include closets, lockers, or even just crouching in the shadows.
Hyudoro are one of the enemies in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. they only appeared in Sandopolis.
An indestructible, petit lightning oni enemy. Appears only in Sky Kid Deluxe/DX.
A feature (or features) is advertised on the box or in the game manual, but due to the game being rushed or not tested the feature is not there. Fixed with patches or DLC in newer games.
The Morphs are a race of shapeshifting reptilian humanoids that have infiltrated human society and influenced it's governments and colonies. After being defeated by Conrad B. Hart, 50 years later, They have enslaved most of humanity and fight a war with the Mandragore resistance. They are also responsible for the extinction of an alien race simply known as the ancients. They are the main antagonistic force of Flashback and it's sequel, Fade to Black.
Never Ending Games is a self-explanatory concept in which a game is unbeatable and never ends, due either to the game having no true ending or because the game is not saved (or truly continued) after the last section of the game.
Enemies that are adamant in their will to hunt you down. Example: Pac-Man ghosts.
Phanto is a flying mask enemy from Super Mario Bros 2. It pursues the player relentlessly if they are holding a key.
You don't know how to play our game, so we'll teach you how.
As there name implies, they eat Twinklies.
A recurring type of B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) that is fought throughout the Resident Evil franchise.
Bosses that are designed to not be beaten; however, sometimes these bosses can finally be beaten at a later point in the game.
An Unwinnable State occurs either due to a glitch or by designer choice, when the player's actions make it so that the game can no longer be completed. However, the game continues as though it is still possible to finish and win.
Known as a "V-Rex" for short, they are an evolutionary descendant of the famous T-Rex that lives on Skull Island in Peter Jackson's version of King Kong.
