GET LOST IN UNCHARTED 2
If you liked Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune you will love Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. If you haven’t played the first Uncharted, it is a 3rd person action game with some platforming sequences heavily influenced by the Indiana Jones movies.
The first thing you will notice in this game are the high production values. Critically acclaimed publisher Naughty Dog really went the extra mile to deliver an action packed movie like experience. The graphics are phenomenal. The voice acting and story writing are superb. Drake is played to perfection by the now infamous Nolan North, no relation to porn star Peter North.
The game starts off with you recovering from a massive train crash and takes you back in time to see how you ended up there. The main story takes you on a quest to find the lost city of Shambala in search of the Cintimani Stone. Along the way Naughty Dog has scattered 101 treasures to help you increase your Trophy collection.
The combat style stays true to the original. Most of the gun fighting will be about finding a good place to get cover and rain bullets and grenades onto your opponents. Like the first Uncharted you can only carry two types of guns at once and up to 4 grenades. The firearms include pistols, a shotgun, automated rifles, sniper rifle, RPG and a few others. Nathan Drake can also take down his opponents using stealthy attacks killing them instantly, or in traditional hand to hand combat.
To add some replay value to the 26 chapters in story mode, Naughty Dog created an online multiplayer option. There are 7 different maps to conquer in 9 multiplayer game modes ranging from death match to capture the flag and king of the hill. There are also some co-operative modes.
The only complaint I have with this title are the controls. At some times when there is a lot of action going on, I would be trying to go from one area of cover to another, but Drake wouldn’t listen.
If this review wasn’t clear enough, if you own a PlayStation 3, you should own Uncharted 2. If you don’t own a PlayStation 3, you should buy one to play this game. Uncharted 2 has some of the best action sequences you will play in any video game, bar none. This is definitely a front runner for 2009 Game of the Year.
