Founded in 2009 by Jeff Strain (Person), Undead Labs (Company)' first game, State of Decay, was released on Xbox 360 (Platform) and PC (Platform).

In 2018, the studio was acquired by Microsoft and became an Xbox Studio.

In July 2026, as part of Microsoft restructuring Xbox, it was announced that Undead Labs would be sold.
