Overview
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a 2D contemporary-fantasy fighting game developed by French-Bread and released by Sega for arcades (via the ALL.NET P-ras MULTI Ver. 2 digital distribution service for PC-based RingEdge 2 hardware) in Japan on July 23, 2015.
The second major revision of the 2012 game Under Night In-Birth, Exe:Late[st] includes an updated roster (bringing the two characters from the home versions of Exe:Late into the arcade version and adding one new playable character, with a second added post-release), a new gameplay mechanic (Cross-Cast Veil Off), and numerous balance tweaks.
It later received a home release for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita on July 20, 2017 in Japan (published by Arc System Works), on February 9, 2018 overseas (published by Aksys Games in North America and pQube in Europe), with only the PS4 version getting a retail release. This version includes two new playable characters. It also received a worldwide digital PC release by Arc System Works on August 20, 2018, although it was replaced on March 27, 2020 with the game's third revision.
Gameplay
Much of the game remains the same as its predecessor, with one major addition:
- Cancelling an attack into a Veil Off technique while in GRD Vorpal mode now causes a Cross-Cast Veil Off, which is a shorter and less potent version that can be activated mid-combo.
