Valve is having their GDC event this year on March 3rd at exactly 3PM. I'm predicting they will have THREE big announcements.

First, they will announce the long-awaited Portal 3.

Second, they will FINALLY announce Team Fortress 3 after seven long years.

And third, and most importantly they will announce: Left 4 Dead 3

Anyone else have any predictions?

I'm predicting they don't announce any new games.

Do game announcements typically happen at GDC? Seems like more of a place for hardware announcements.

I could see them announcing a new source engine and demo a new game on it though.

I respect the level of trolling to make it at 3pm. That's on par with Capcom announcing Bison for SF5 on a Tuesday. And only thing I'd say is guaranteed is talking about the new VR project with HTC. But I doubt HL3 or HL2 Ep 3 will get announced, at this point it is too amusing for them TO announce it.

realistically speaking i don't anticipate any announcements beyond the VR business and the controller. the games will come once the headset is closer to being available to consumers.

DOTA 3?

They're not gonna announce any games. Valve only makes hardware and Dota patches now.

I'm excited to see their controller. Didn't they say that it'll be released at GDC? I could totally be wrong.

I say Gabe Newell walks in the room, says Half Life 3, then leaves.

I bet it's something to do with that controller. Maybe some SteamOS or VR stuff.

I hope that they show some sort of game to go along with their VR setup. I don't care if it's Portal/left 4 dead/half life or something brand new but if this thing is coming out by the end of the year I hope they'll have something besides tech demos to show off!

They show off Steam VR, OS, controllers, and boxes. Maybe some Source 2 stuff?

I died a little inside while writing that sentence.

Sometimes game announcements happen there if it is a good fit. For example, Little Big Planet was announced there with a 20 minute stage demo of the level creation tools. Also, Playstation Home was announced there. New ideas that developers haven't seen before like those are what gets good traction at GDC. It's why OnLive was also a big hit when it was revealed there.

They wont announce any games im sure.. and dont even begin to mention HL3 that train has left the station along time ago..

When they announce games it will be multiplayer only. Nothing else makes sense for them.

I imagine there will much more in-depth talk about their partnership with HTC.

They will announce they are officially re-branding as VALV3.

Lord Gabeth will announce they're buying Capcom and will be making Megaman Legends 3 for PC/PS4/Xbone/Vita/3DS and NO Wii U version. Also he announces Capcom will go back to making games instead of sitting on their asses and ip's and doing jack shit with them. Also a new Breath of Fire for PC/PS4/Xbone as well as releasing the entirety of Capcom's back catalog on PSN/Xbox live/Ninty's shop. Oh and announces a new Rival Schools!!! It's gonna be a great day tomorrow!

It's going to be about the HTC partnership for their VR headset. So that's Oculus, Sony, Microsoft and HTC/Valve all working on these things. Valve they say want theirs out holiday season this year!

Also Valve are talking about GLnext graphics so we may possibly see some Source 2 stuff there.

Is it even worth Valve investing in any new games at the moment?

Probably not unless it involved free to play and hats.

Looking forward to hearing feedback on the headset though. And a price. And software compatibility with the oculus libraries and things. Would suck if engines had to add support all over again for the RE vive or whatever the hell the terrible name for the HTC headset is.

They will announce that video games are officially dead.

Or if not that, then the final form of their controller and some milestones of the Steam store.

Prediction: There will be 0 game announcements. This will focus on VR and their (dumb) Linux push.

They will announce that Half Life 3 is a free to play mobile game that is a copy of Clash of Clans.

GDC isn't really a place for game announcements and they certainly don't need to be on a stage to announce a game. It'll be a hardware, tech or steam talk.

Half Life 3, exclusive to their new VR thing with HTC. If people want a new Half Life to innovate that's how it's going to happen.

You are mischaracterizing this thing to a huge degree. It's a standard workshop session, just like most everything else at GDC. Not an "event." That doesn't mean that they couldn't slip something in there, I guess, but this isn't going to be some press-focused, announcement-driven session. The guy will probably just get up there and talk about physics, just like the panel description says.

If I was a physics-focused game developer and I went to this thing and it turned out to be some big public announcement, I'd be pretty pissed. GDC passes aren't cheap, that'd be a real waste of time.

Uhhhh, I feel sorry for Mr. Migdalskiy. All he'd like to do is teach physics optimization in games and the 3's thing has made people spiral out...

there's really only one thing that can happen:

Gabe walks on stage in a large overcoat, the screen behind him shows the half life lambda symbol. the crowd cheers. He removes his coat to show he's grown a third arm, the lambda symbol now has a big red X over it. Gabe turns his back to the crowd and as he walks off flips three birds.

Gabe Newell steps in and announce shenmue 3.. If it really happened i'll die while wearing a huge grin on my face :D

Valve 2: Episode 1

e: sorry jeff. keep forgetting how game developer focused the, er, game developer's conference is. i'm sure this will be a treat for those in the industry, though.

So as it turns out, this isn't even a real thing. It's just a GDC panel held by an engineer who works at Valve. There's nothing press conference-y about it.
