As the title says, is this worth 5.00 to potentially play...some day? I must be mixing it with another vampire game because I remember one specifically years back that was awful in every way but this game seems to have a cult following and pretty good reception. Looking for some advice from those who have played this game.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Nov 16, 2004
Bloodlines is a first person action-RPG built on Source engine and based on the World of Darkness setting from White Wolf.
Currently 4.99 on Steam, is it Worth the Purchase?
It's very good. Some fantastic writing, an interesting world, and some clunky but endearing gameplay. As @quarters mentioned, look for the unofficial patch if you do end up grabbing it as it fixes a lot of bugs and makes the game much more playable. You can find it, and a guide to getting around some crashes on Win 8, on the Steam forums for the game.
Yes! If you like Deus Ex or first person RPGs you should really give it a shot. Play it with the fanpatch, and don't choose a Malkavian clan as your first character (they are the insane vampires that change up all the dialog in the game). Melee is generally the preferred way to combat, as I don't remember if guns are any good at all. The first 2/3rds of the game are absolute gold (Santa Monica is grand). Once you hit an area called Hollywood Sewers, everything turns to shit so it is okay if you stop playing right there.
Every time this game goes on sale, I am continually reminded that I should actually play more than the first hour.
Yes, very good game. It may be rough around the edges (very rough at times), the translation of the pen and paper RPG into computer form is well done and the writing is almost second to none (okay it MAY not beat Planescape Torment but it is still at minimum on the level). The game gets a lot more playable during the later parts with the community patch.
@nightriff: Its worth it but it takes some work to get working on newer machines.
I remember it fondly. However, I've never been able to get it to run on my newer computer and by the time I would get it working I'd already have talked myself out of playing it again. That being said, if you haven't played it and are on the hunt for a good vampire rpg it's the best around.

I wish i could play an hour of this game. I bought it probably 2 years ago, but I spent like 3 hours trying to get the damn thing to not crash every 30 seconds. I just gave up and haven't touched it since.
Yes, yes, and yes. Especially if you enjoyed Deus Ex.
Get one of the unofficial patches while you're at it.
I loved it back in the days. I bought recently on a sale and, yeeeaaah, it has aged poorly in technical terms (and some things wasn't great to begin with). But it's damn unique and with that big visual mod, I would recommend a playthrough.
I deeply envy everyone who still has the joys of playing through this game for the first time ahead of him/herself. Get it.
Yes.
No.
Both of these.
If I could gift you my Steam copy, I would.
I've has this game for 2 years or longer on Steam and only played it once.
@nightriff: depends on your tolerance of old-game jank. Not to mention this game was quite janky even back when it was new.
None of these.
It's janky and also it has the same failing many Deus Ex like games have that IMO is pretty major and fails to live up to perhaps Deus Ex's greatest accomplishment: the level design. Like the Human Revolution and Deus Ex Invisible War, the levels are very cramped and predictible (vs how open and rewarding of exploration levels were in the first Deus Ex).
Otherwise, it's a pretty good game though. I really love the setting in particular.
That game has been sitting on my pc for ever and I've never played it at all. I think I bought it off gog for around or even less than the price it's currently being sold. I think the whole vampire craze a few years back kinda turned me off from playing that game after I initially bought it. Heard the game was pretty stellar when it came out though just couldn't bring myself to play it.
