I just bought it off the Halloween steam sale for 5 bucks and still get the 15mb error message. I've installed the latest patch to the correct directory, done everything from the support page on steam forums, and it still will not work.

Edit: I'm running windows 7 with everything up to date.

I remember this, and I went crazy tying to fix it. I tried all the things recommended on steam and it didn't work. In the end I got it working using one of the compatibility settings in the properties of the main exe file.

Install the unofficial patch found here: http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php should fix the problem.

@Krushr: I've already installed the unofficial patch, it didn't work. I still get the same memory error when launching from steam.

edit:okay I finally got it working........ blah what a pain in the ass

It is a pain in the ass, but it's worth it. I hope a developer gets the rights to a Vampire the Masquerade game.
