    Overview

Verytex is a vertical shoot 'em up developed exclusively for the Japanese Sega Mega Drive. The goal of the game is to complete six stages across (and eventually inside) the planet Syracuse, the armed forces of which suddenly started attacking nearby human colonies.

The weapons of the player's ship, the titular Verytex, has three modes which can be upgraded to maximize their spread and damage, and complementary side-weapons that include heat-seeking missiles. The player also has a finite stock of smart bombs and can acquire a shield which will protect them from a number of enemy projectiles before dissipating, but not collisions with enemy craft.

Verytex is notable for being one of the earliest projects of game composers Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata, a duo that would go on to create many significant soundtracks for games like Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy XII.
