futuristic shooters don't really impress me anymore... Then again, I don't really like MWs either so I guess I'm not their target comsumer :p.

p.s. tea bag? Really? Do they really want gamers to be excited by showing someone tea bagging?

Looks OK for a game in the early stages of development, still a long way to go till its a finished product and what I've seen here doesn't look like its going to break any records any time soon.

I guess I'm supposed to be impressed by the shiny graphics and effects.  All I see is another arena / death match multi-player shooter.  Not that that makes it bad, there's just not anything to get really excited about.

One would think that something released which is not representative of the final product should be so mindblowingly different that the details of quality do not matter.  This just looks like a samey shooter.

Oh this is that console Cry-engine powered version of Nexuiz instead of the free crazy Quake-modded Nexuiz. This game has a weird legacy and the last game that tried the hyper-fast twitch shooter style and tried charging for it did not do so well; How is it going Unreal Tournament 3?

Looks like an arena shooter with a mix of Halo and Unreal Tournament / Quake. Can't say I was super impressed, can't say I'm absolutely turned off from paying attention to any future info or media on the project either.

Early days, reserving judgement till they something more solid :)

Interesting art-style.
However, is there really place for a shooter like this nowadays? Haven't Quake-esque game been done?

EDIT: Just saw it's free. Impressive. Cannot really complain.

" Nexuiz is a free, open-source, first person shooter that runs on a modified Quake engine."

So which is it? Modified Quake or CryEngine 3?

These guys clearly feel that Quake and UT have left a void than needs to be filled :D
I dislike the gun design though.

I have always liked Nexuiz, I started playing it fairly early on after they first made the win32 client available (it was linux only for a while if I remember correctly).
Anyway, they still make the same design mistake as they did when they started, sure - people like to point out how ugly the player models are, but that isn't it's biggest issue - it's the weapon designs - a fast paced FPS like this needs to have instantly recognizable weapon types, a newcomer to the game should be able to understand what a weapon will do when he picks it up, by using weapon designs that convey what they will do. Nexuiz sadly fails at this for the most part, now I must admit it's been more than a year since I last tried the game, and they occassionally fix stuff like that (it was much worse early on), but the machine gun looks like a sniper rifle, the rocket launcher looks more like a shotgun, the shotgun looks like some kind of machine gun (it reminds me a little bit of the triple barrelled machine gun of Duke Nukem 3D), basically the only weapons that look like the function they perform are the grenade launcher and the cryo-thing.
I don't mean that they should go for the boring real-life weapon stuff, but games like Unreal Tournament manage to convey the function and strength of the weapons even though they use rather alien looking designs. Being a open source project they obviously doesn't have access to the world's most professional game designers, but a lot of this stuff has been pointed out in their forums for years and it makes it rather hard for newcomers to pick the game up --- at least that's what I think.

For the PC side I'd hope that this would be on some game engine that doesn't require an aircraft carrier sized computer to run, loved the game but they could have built this on Unreal Tournament3 without losing too much.

The Nexuiz in the video is CryEngine 3, is not free, and is not open source.  The Nexuiz from the info box under the video is based on the DarkPlaces engine which is itself a modifed Quake engine, is free, and is open source.  It's kinda confusing and having the wrong info on this video doesn't really help.  Looks like there is a page for this Nexuiz.

I like that it's colourful, but the visuals look cluttered. I would get frustrated playing this as there aren't reliable visual cues because the textures are too busy.

Perhaps it won't be as much of an issue with the final lighting and textures when it's done.
