After watching the QA portion of the PAX panel and Jeff talking about the way things worked 'back in the day' and what they don't do anymore I find it funny the last few uploads have been trailers, game footage and GTA V screenshots.

Videogame coverage on the internet hasn't changed that much you guys :P

Pretty graphics are not enough

I have a sad feeling I'm going to be saying that a lot as we transition into new consoles later this year.

Allll the post processing. After watching that FOX engine presentation this looks patently uninspiring. . . Damn my Jaded graphics loving eyeballs. They only ever settle for the best, never let me enjoy anything, wankers!

Sure, it may be trying to out "Call of Duty" the Call of Duty series, but uh... pretty explosions, you guys!
But no, seriously. The whole military shooter thing is about as old as the Aztecs at this point, regardless of how pretty (read: grungy looking) the graphics might be.

These right here are some good battlefield trailers

I like how this trailer is showing that its a game. It's not trying to be anything else. Its right there in the bottom right. Press R to reload. little achievements popping up in the top right. Its fantastic.

i get fed up off the COD dubstep trailers. Pretending they are a cinematic movie experience or like... memories of real life or some shit. Hell no. Battlefield 4 says, "I'm a fucking game, come play me".

So, I'm not really seeing a difference from Frostbite 2, which is disappointing. Though, I gotta say, the shit that went down in that trailer got pretty real. Wasn't expecting that. Not really interested in playing a battlefield campaign after BF3, but it looks like they're trying.

Even though I felt the same excitement over BF3's early trailers and was disappointed by the end result (aside from a few missions) I must say they have got my attention with this one. Those faces are pretty great and I really dig the song choice.

Not sure I like the re-remixed BF theme at the end. Especially after how BF3 freaking nailed it. But I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic and try not to get too hyped up over the SP.

Curious what they'll add to MP, if anything.

Shouldn't the age gate be able to automatically check or save for subscribers?

I would be much more excited if Bad Company showed up even if it was like Bad Company 2 where they were just along for the ride in a CoD campaign because I really don't care about any of these random soliders.

I have to say, those visuals are god damn stunning. No amount of "meh'ing" about BF4 being another military FPS change that. I might make an exception with my "scripted military shooter" fatigue and pick this up for whatever next gen system I buy (probably ps4).

Was the Battlefield 3 campaign as action crazy as this gameplay reveals?

Overall this looks amazing and I like how it can go to crazy situations without feelings like COD crazy, perhaps because I don't know the storyline yet so who knows. The best part however were the sounds, hearing gunfire echo and noises go from foreground to background noise really is superb.

Oh right because we're still pretending to compete directly with CoD in every way, shape and form, except with open terrain MP instead of focusing exclusively on making the MP awesome.

@mordeaniischaos: I wonder what that will mean for the story. Will this group of guys stick together, similar to Bad Company? Either way despite the over-the-top action I did enjoy what they showed. Seems interesting.

You know, all of this would be pretty exciting, if it wasn't for the dull, unconvincing military b-movie dialogue. Those situations are great! But those dudes in the squad intended to carry us beween situations, the connective tissue, are all 100% interchangeable in their attitudes, roles in the story, and impact on the audience. I don't care at all if one of these dudes dies, gets injured, or falls down and blacks out repeatedly in service of plot transitions. The most significant non-tactical detail about the world this game takes place in, is the civilian driving up and then walking away. Nobody spends all day everyday talking only about their current situation and the mission objectives, outside of these rollercoaster ride shooters.

It can be done much better, without everything being over the top declarations, plot twists, and fate of the world drama. Read Matterhorn if you aren't sure that fiction can convey the experience. Watch Restrepo or read Outside the Wire if you don't think that a semi-accurate account of the real thing is ever dramatic. Or play Spec Ops if you don't think this sort of game has anything to contribute.

How they could spend this much on other aspects of a game and not make sure the writing is compelling... I don't understand it.

Unfortunately, it's EA, which means Origin-only, and they'll ruin it with microtransactions, because that's what EA does these days. Not that I'm jaded or anything.

Yeah, I started playing BF3 again recently, and this doesn't actually look THAT much better than it does. I mean, it still looks fantastic, but this isn't some Real-Ass Fox Engine Shit.

Also, considering the keyboard prompts, that's some gamepad-ass aiming.

The shadowy uncaring administrative voices at the end were uninspired, but the characterization here is above par. And it managed to make scripted action exciting again by focusing on the human element. Mark this skeptic intrigued. Also, props for revealing your game with a major gameplay segment instead of a bullshit, long form marketing campaign.

Looks amazing and fun! Luckily, I haven't worn myself from modern military shooters since mw2 and bf3 was the last shooter I played. Some people seem very hard to please, especially coming to a modern military shooter trailer expecting modern military dudes to not be shooting with modern military weapons instead of crow hands or something.

Do I need to play Battlefield 1 thru 3 to get caught up on the story?

This already looks miles ahead of the awful BF3 campaign. Good in DICE.
