Newmens Sky

I bought it because it was on sale and apparently they changed a lot.

So far, even real early on, kinda seems like a chore to play with how quickly everything eats up resources and how long it takes to gather them.

I guess the gameplay loops is that in the coming hours I will upgrade my stuff where I'm not constantly out of fuel or whatnot, but typically games ease you in before you hit the grind wall and with NMS it seems like you're up against that wall from the very start.

I hope they do more videos and focus on the game play and the multiplayer aspect.

I’m really happy with the update and hopefully it’s showcased for all to see next time. It’s great to see friends having fun with it though!!!

It seems just as aimless as it was. Like there's more stuff to do but it's still all in pursuit of nothing.

The big deck comments made my brain immediately think "big deck energy". The memes have corrupted me.

Weird how the switch to a third person perspective really makes me want to play No Man's Sky. Plus, the game might be good now?

The screen shake is similar to how I feel when I go out in public.

They can swap between different players screens? I wish they learned how to do this during the Murder Island series.

I watched entire hour and a half hoping to see something interesting. Other than GB folks making funny comments this game just sucks ass. Which is evident, because Vinny got super bored and started playing around with Alex's face lol

After seeing a bunch of renewed hype for this game following the update I was thinking about buying it while it's on sale on Steam. Then I saw this stream.

This really isn't a great showcase for the fun to be had, the waypoint stream was far better for that. Shows what the actual game is instead of the amount of screwing around with no real idea what to do that this was.

Look I love Giant Bomb's content, but this is not the place to come to for an accurate look at what a game has to offer most of the time. They play things for a short time, mostly fucking around, and it's fun but it doesn't show what the actual product has to offer quite often.

@doncabesa: I have to disagree with you a bit. For the most part I find GB's content to be a pretty good picture of what a game is, especially the Quick Looks, and their multipart streams.

That being said I have stopped watching most of the things the West Coast crew do now, because I don't like Ben's sense of humor or the way he plays games. Getting though the Murder Island episode from Ben's point of view was pretty tough.

I agree, and as someone who's never liked watching brad as he's just not great at talking and playing well it has really limited the west coast to just Jeff as Jason plays mostly games I have zero interest in. The west coast really needs some sort of energy injection.

I hope the graphics have been fixed so they don't make me sick to watch now. Otherwise I cant watch this video. This is still the only game I have ever played that I cannot look at for too long (even on a video) or it makes me physically ill. So weird. I wanted to play this game more, too. I didn't mind what it was personally. Just couldn't stand to look at it for too long without getting sick. Very strange.

(Ya, ya, everybody always tells me motion sickness- again out of around 2000 games I've played to completion... the only game)

Edit: Yep, they did. The graphics seem significantly improved, and very different than this game used to look.

I'm 10 hours in and loving my time with it. Yeah, it's buggy at spots and there is a lot of resource collecting, but the scale, visuals and gameplay loop makes this into a chill time that really works for me right now.

If you're looking for a "purpose" in this than you're gonna leave disappointed.

I'm glad some folk are getting what they want now, but this still seems too aimless for me. Just wandering around and building bases and exploring does nothing for me conceptually, and now I'm too caught up trying to get a character to 110 in WoW to make time for this.

This stream was pretty fun though! Props to Vinny for working through a lot of technical difficulties

Vinny should be there in the play, I can genuinely see him wanting to test out the limit of this system.

Also the number of times Ben encounter something and say "Shoot them" is hilarious and infuriating.

I'm digging the story mode this time round, but that's pointless when you're trying to showcase multiplayer. NMS will never be a GOTY contender for me but I'm glad that they spent some time turning the ship around instead of abandoning the whole thing, ME Andromeda style, when the public turned against it.

Im most surprised by Jeff's positive attitude towards the game in UPF after this show. Seems to still be mostly a single player experience though which is fin by me.

Guys give them a break, they only had a 2 year beta to sort out the bugs and kinks....

Yay, Sky time!

It's still the same game as it was at launch. That is, on Normal difficulty, a chill or dull exploration game where you mine the crap out of everything to get some upgrades and travel farther.

But, I think I like that. Also, the added features and options fills it out more.

NMS is still pretty buggy, but they've added so much functionality that in many ways it's almost a new game at this point. Clearly it launched 2 years early. Plus it's the best screenshot generator I've ever known. I enjoy it for what it is, despite the significant weaknesses.

@humanity: There'a still a lot of grinding for resources but honestly after a while it all just sort of stops becoming a hassle. It becomes kind of easy to get what you need and after that just have fun finding strange things.

From my perspective, even as aimless as this was it seemed like GB had a pretty good time with what they added to the game, this long after release for free as a make-good. What more does one need/reasonably expect from No Man's Sky? On the Bombcast as Jeff said, it seems they stepped outside the parameters of the original vision for this thing, which, I think is more than enough to ask for given how much 'stuff' there is to space-sandbox in.

I dunno. I personally never had much of a beef with NMS. This stream does feel pretty aimless, but the actual multiplayer component, owning a freighter and a fleet and kind of discover-as-you-go loop, along with all the third person and overhaul of visuals and quests and stuff, that's enough for me. I am having a good time; I guess aimless discovery resource hunting and building hasn't gotten old within the right context. I mean, people still play minecraft, right?

If anyone wants to go see a good look at all of the actual new content in this game go check out Waypoint Austin Walker's stream of NMS on twitch or their website. They cover a lot more which GB didn't even know about, like missions, side quests, frieghters, land rovers, hostile alien swarms, how the main quest differs, warp gates, etc. They did their research.

I had a feeling GB would just try to jump in from a new game without realizing most of the new stuff is later on in the game. To be fair, the beginning of the game is somewhat different than V 1.0 but it isn't substantial enough by itself to make video content for.
