Really starting to feel the pressure of completing Alien: Isolation before this comes out... Wish there was at least an extra week in between the two, as I've intentionally been taking my time with Isolation so as to savour it all.

Oh well, I shouldn't fret too much and just be grateful there's two bigger budget horror games being released one after the other, and at least one of those is preeeeetty goooood!

And Holy Balls @ that thumbnail.

The more I've watched these trailers lately the more I'm becoming excited for this. Also @1:01 that is totally a shout out to the original Silent Hill to me.

Be so cool if this is really good and sells well so we might start seeing more horror games coming to consoles.

That scene where he's running from that monster in the hallway is going to be frustrating, climb over this, slide under that, bump into table...DEAD.

As much as I like Shinji Mikami, I have a hard time believing this will be good. I'm currently replaying RE4 and it's just so fantastic, but every single thing I've seen from this looks awful. I hope I'm wrong, but I thought the same thing about Alien and it sure seems to be a stinkeroo.

I really want this to be good, I'm afraid its going to be mediocre. No point in speculation when its only a few days away, though.

I can say that what I've been hearing about the PC port is pretty disappointing, with the ridiculous recommended specs and 30 FPS cap. We'll see though.

*Breathing intensifies*

If nothing had convinced me up until this point, this makes me certain that The Evil Within will be an intelligent, atmospheric, versatile, and a fucking scary game. Even from the trailers is visible how vulnerable you are, and I love that!

Also, is anyone else curious on what Ruviks motivations are? Based on the title of the video game, and Ruviks comments/remarks from the trailer, there seems to be a strong indication that either Sebastian is not as kind as he may seems, which Ruvik may exploit, Or that Sebastion is indeed a straight arrow, which is why Ruvik wants to slowly break him mentally.

That trailer was so good! I can see pieces from other games forming nicely, the old school Resident Evil puzzles, distracting enemies like in The Last of Us, sliding down a river or hill to avoid obstacles like Tomb Raider (I say those games because those are the most recent ones I've played and that popped into my mind while watching the trailer). And people talked a lot about Tomb Raider's death scenes. Ha, that looks like fun and games compared to some of the death scenes in this trailer.

I just hope the PC version is good and that someone creates a good mod to allow for 1080p (there's no confirmation it is at 1080p yet)/60 fps (it runs at 30). And hopefully adjusting the aspect ratio (which seems really weird to me) won't break the game. Otherwise I guess I can suffer playing on PS4 :P

This game definitely looks like a survival horror game in the vain of RE4 so I'm looking forward to it and here's hoping it can be just as a big to warrant a series.

really weird hearing the narrator talk about green gel and ammo. that's a weird tidbit to include unless you're a ps2 era game manual.

im cautiously optimistic about this. if the gameplay is anything like re4 (or the last of us cause this trailer is reminding me more of that than re4), i will be happy. i just hope it doesn't get bogged down with unwinnable encounters and gimmicks that you only want to see once.

I just don't see this game being very good. I watched the hour long video they put out of Pete Hines playing the game and it didn't look like he was enjoying it at all. And he's paid to pretend all of Bethesda's games will be great.

I hope that even if this game isn't super awesome, it's at least enjoyable enough to keep me hooked until the end and does well enough that we may continue to see a resurgence of good survival horror games.

It's weird; Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 2 and two of my favourite games, and this seems like a perfect mesh of them both... but I can't get excited about this game. There's something weirdly janky about the way it's coming off to me in trailers and stuff, I can't help but feel it's going to end up monotonous, awkward and just kinda dull to play. I hope i'm proven wrong, though!

Im getting really, really sick of these crappy DX11 only, 30fps console ports with ridiculous hard drive space requirements. Do they really think that bloated file sizes and uncompressed audio are REALLY going to deter piracy?

Unless this game is just an unparallelled technical and game play failure I'm convinced I'm going to enjoy it. It looks like it's attempting to be a much harder and desperate RE4. One of my favorite games of all time and something I've beaten around the neighborhood of 30 times across four different consoles. I had to make a hard choice between this and Isolation, but Mikami has generally always made games I've enjoyed and I'm excited to see him return to horror. Excited to play this on my One next week with some headsets on and in a dark room.

GREEN GEL WHOOOOAHHH

Seriously, this looks right up my alley. I've been watching every trailer posted here and have been getting more and more excited. Kinda glad I passed on Alien Isolation.

Also this comes out the same day as the Sleeping Dogs remaster and X-men: Days of Future Past. So....fuck paying bills, I guess.

re4 did the same thing back in the day, but it was for 4:3 tv's and you had the choice between letterbox and fullscreen (consensus was the letterboxed mode was the way to go). As a person that loves movies equally to games (maybe even a little more than games) I'm of the mindset that wider aspect ratios are a good thing if the film/game are built around them. And I think this is definitely an instance where it's a stylistic choice over doing it because of hardware limitation.

Anyone getting a Shadows of the Damned vibe from this game? I know that Mikami worked on that one too but this game seems like it has a lot in common with that game.

this looks gruesome and cool and fun, but also kinda standard for a Mikami game? I mean, it's probably unfair but I guess I can't help but expect him to do something new and wacky.

I want to look forward to it but that season pass thing has me worried. Sure, I know that I don't have to get it, but it just seems odd to announce it for this kind of game, especially as early as they did.

Here's hoping it proves me wrong though and the game is worth the pass and then some!

@rongalaxy: I could not disagree more. So far as I'm concerned, games and movies should be 16:9. I don't see any good reason as to why something shouldn't be taking up all of my television screen, stylistic choice or not. I mean, if I'm watching a movie in a movie theater I don't know the difference, but I hate those black bars on my TV if I'm watching one at home. I couldn't name a single movie that I think was made better by having those instead of filling the whole screen.

But, you know, opinions. I'm also well regarded as having "horrible taste in movies," so take my opinion however you will.

I will say though, one point years ago I was watching the special features on the Iron Man Blu-ray and noticed something. It was some behind the scenes thing where they were filming something, and they were filming the filming, along with a TV screen of what they were filming (or maybe it was into the editing process, I don't remember). Anyway, I specifically remember it being a shot of a TV with footage of the movie, and it was a 16:9 TV with the movie taking up the entire TV, BUT there were white lines on the TV for where the letterboxing would be. Not like, big boxes, just little lines marking the edges of the letterboxing.

And ever since then I've been pissed and going under the assumption that letterboxed things are cutting off part of the picture. I'm sure that's not the case for all movies, but it still disgruntles me.

I don't play horror games very often (RE4/Dead Space(s)/Outlast in maybe the past decade) but if that trailer didn't make the game seem damn appealing I don't know what else will.

I may step back into the rarely trodden genre if Patrick can give this game the OK. He really is the one I trust for horror game opinions.

Mikami has stated that with The Evil Within he's not looking to break new ground or anything, and just wants to make a classicly designed horror game. So he's patently aware that this perhaps doesn't look like anything especially... new. But hey, all the power to him as I think this is lookin' great.

I picked this up early today (local game stores in EU do not care about street dates!)...and after 8 hours...I do not like this game at all. Zero interest in playing it, back to Shadow of Mordor I guess :(

Everything about this game looks amazing to me outside of the terrible IQ, the diversity in the environments and general art design in that trailer are really exciting. Love all of the traps, that hallway full of heads is great!

Shame about the 30 FPS cap on PC, they said there would be a console command to change that so hopefully it's possible to get a more consistent performance level than Dead Rising 3. If nothing else there's always gsync!
