Being a Space Hulk Seems Like a Crappy Job

But it's probably going to make for a pretty cool video game, you know?

A new 40K game?

*scrambles for wallet while repeating "ohmygodohmygodohmygod" over and over hyperventilates passes out*

I mean, yeah cool. Looks neat.

Also uh excuse me Patrick, Space Hulk's are derelict amalgamations of ships/debris/etc that have combined to create a huge form that drifts at random in and out of the warp, the soldiers who go IN to the Hulks are Space Marines wearing Tactical Dreadnought armour, or more commonly, Terminator armour in this case specifically of the Blood Angels chapter, what with the fighting and the shooting and the killing of the Genesteeealers. Ba-hay!

No Caption Provided

I laughed. Oh how I did laugh. THANK YOU, SIR, for tickling the WH40K-nerve in me, thank you EVEN more for making it really damned cool! You, sir, win. Everything!

:D

:D glad that knowledge went to use.

Looks like a lot of cramped corridors. I don't get it. As somebody who doesn't play any 40k tabletop/board games, but loves 40k-based video games, I'm pretty disappointed with what I'm seeing here. Maybe that's true to the board game, but it doesn't appear to be the tactical experience I was hoping this would be.

I choose to believe that Patrick said "being a Space Hulk" just because he knows Giant Bomb is full of WH40k fans and our disgruntlement gives him great glee. Or just to troll Vinny.

Probably both.

This is completely true to the Space Hulk game. Space Hulk is a completely different style of table top game vs regular-ass 40k, based more around groups of space marines clearing aliens from derelict space ships, ala the Aliens series.

As many have probably pointed out the space hulk is the ship, it's the hulk of a bunch of other ships fused together by the 'Warp'.

So this kind of look like Space Marine + XCOM, I like both of them, but the tight corridor seems iffy tho.

Space hulks are essentially derelict ships with things the Imperium wants. Or wants to destroy. Since things in the 40k universe are messed up, these space hulks pop in and out of the warp willy nilly.

And like Brad's router, bugs LOVE these things.

Even worse, Ork Waaaaaghs also love those things.

As others have said a Space Hulk is a thing, not a person.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Judgment_of_Carrion

This game looks like it is trying to grab some of the success XCOM received (IE a game genre that isn't first/third person shooter). I feel like Dawn of War II is a step back from Dawn of War (one) and this is a step back further.

What are you talking about lol? This game was in production before XCOM was released and it isn't being developed by relic. It's also based off a board game from about 18 or so years ago.

Be prepared, for all the Space British you can handle.

Seriously, though, hoping this rides the XCOM coattails well.

Already seeing people stating disappointment because of the cramped corridors and slow pace. You might want to do some research on the board game, because by all appearances this isn't trying to be anything more than a faithful interpretation of it. It's not going to be XCOM: WH40k Edition, so set your expectations accordingly.

This was the first game that I remember legitimately scaring me as a kid. Seeing a genestealer pop up in my marines' view and shredding him with no hope of rescue was terrifying!

I'm a bit backwards on the whole board game thing. I'm a little less so about the 40k universe, there be some good reading compilations even on the internet. I know the Space Marines are not the only thing happening on the human side. But they are fun and specialized for their job. They humanized the protagonist of Space Marine a fair amount before yanking on the leash, and it was very possible there were individuals that knightly. Without wanting to spoil, they correctly showed where that could get you in the end.

Winning every battle and slowly loosing the war.....it would seem. But I even enjoyed that dl they did for the X-box even though the reviews were barely good.

Love the 40k universe. Space Hulk? Hell yeah.

Bit disappointed it seems to be a turn based game, at least from what i could tell from that trailer. Space Hulk could be a really great atmospheric horror action game. Sorta like Dead Space but in the 40k universe. That'd be awesome.

Well i hope this turns out to be good, since i LOVE the 40k universe.

I was really excited to learn about this upcoming game and hope it's faithful to the board game, but I'm a bit disappointed that it seems to be a graphical step back from the Dawn of War 2 games. Effects, animations, models, everything seemed better in those.

@clonedzero:

Dude there can be soooo many awesome games in the 40k universe. I'll make a bullet list.

  • 40k roleplaying video game (kinda like baldur's gate but with the inquisition)
  • 40k homeworld
  • 40k civ
  • 40k mark of the ninja (with imperial assassins)
  • 40k walking dead (more story focused)
  • 40k skyrim (new world imperial colonists)
  • 40k rogue trader

@mewarmo990: It's made by an indie studio and not relic.

Surely you mean "SPICE MOHREEENZ!"

Also, have you guys that are sperging out about the technical definition of a space hulk considered that Patrick was making a joke?

Is this a mobile game? That's what it looks like.

No, but pretty sure its $25-$30 on Steam. Besides, with TBS, as long as the tactics are tight, that's what I am there for.

I don't know anything else that Full Control has done, but I hope that they're better at porting over board games to PC than Cyanide was with Blood Bowl....

Considering the board game (3rd edition) is out-of-print and currently goes for ~170 bucks on eBay, this is a fantastic way to play the game. Same for Warhammer Quest...I don't much like Games Workshop and their overpricing and rare reprintings, but I like that they are releasing some of these hard to find games digitally.
