Choose Our Own Adventure!: 11/04/2015 (Life is Strange)

Yes! Finally one of my top 3 games 2015 is continued. Love the game, love your commentary.

If you guys are saying stuff like "I really like this game" at the end of episode 2, I think you'll be pleased with the final outcome. Because this game starts getting shit DONE in the next episode. All uphill from here, guys.

I went with DON'T SHOOT because I felt like it was important for Team Max to be armed against all these drug psychos in the town, and it made Chloe happy. But I didn't think of it from the perspective of "teenagers shouldn't have guns!", so I'm glad Vinny was there for that!

@infamousonager: I liked it from the start, but it is front loaded with the worst dialog in the whole game, which is a shame.

To be fair, stuff like saying "rip" out loud probably wasn't in common use in fall 2013 when the game is set. That feels like a 2014-2015 thing to me.

Am I the only one who thought that The Killing Moon would start to play during the eclipse scene?

I'm confused. This is the THIRD time GBEast has played LiS, right? There were some problems with the second video, as far as I can remember, right? So, where is it? Because the search is giving me just three CooA videos (two for LiS, one for Fleshy Puzzle) :(

Super glad you guys are going to see this series through, the places this game goes in the rest of the episodes is crazy. This series has its issues but I would not be surprised to see this game come up in some of the game of the year discussions.

Oh god the next episode is so heart wrenching, and Christ the twist at the end of ep 4 is mental. Hearing them talk about Nathan is the big bad is perfect. Writers playing the audience like a fiddle.

So really why does everyone hate warren so much? He seems like a cool guy into science willing to stick his neck out for the people he cares about. I don't get it.

What is it about people who hate this series that they have to be so vocal about it. It's like they feel superior for hating 'hipster indie' games.

BTW, my 15 years old sister and her friends definitely talk similarly. Teens are dumb.

He is the 'nice guy' holding on to a crush when he knows she's not into him that way. I think people just find him cringey and want him to get over it. I don't think anybody think he's a bad guy.

@flamingeyebrows: I mean but the evidence of her not being in to him comes from the way people play. There was no evidence in the beginning that she wasn't in to him and everyone hated him from the beginning. Sigh ...As I try to be the nice guy people who hate nice guys annoy me.

As someone who is 25 and around 10 years removed from 'teen dialogue' I can say that the only thing this game gets wrong is the timelyness of the movie references that are used.

The smart/hipster kids using 'big words' they barely understand to seem smart? yep that's teen dialogue.

Using a whole bunch of shitty movie references to seem cool? yep.

Basically being mopey and forcing a 'i'm so thoughtful/introspective' mood because it's expected of you by society and it's makes you feel mature? spot on.

Making really fucking stupid mistakes like breaking into a junkyard and shooting a stolen gun? This one hit home for me as I did something incredibly similar. That's a very teen thing to do.

The only aspect the game fails on is that the periphery stuff that is out of date like compact discs and the old movie references. (and even then I can see teens using out of date tech and old references they should't know because 'lol retro' such as the polaroid camera, which I can fucking remember using in highschool in 2005)

If I had to guess I would say the writer is using stuff that he/she associates with their teenage years which would explain that.

God this game is so not cool enough for me. Jk, it's pretty interesting. I didn't have expectations since I usually don't play this style of game, but I feel more open to them now.

Don't get why everyone overthinks the teen dialogue. The biggest out of place thing is the delivery/tone (not necessarily the fault of the writing) and references; they could make 'em a little more "teen-relevant", but uh, recognizability>accuracy. Teens talk like this. It's awkward, weird, and dumb. Actually, all people are guilty of talking like this. Everyone loves to think they're articulate on the internet.

The first video has weirdly been delisted from search. I made a bug report about it. The quickest way to find all the Choose Our Own Adventure video is to go to Videos -> Features, where you can easily see all 4 videos that have been made so far.

I haven't had a premium subscription for a few months now but the second you guys announce you're going to play more of this on the playdate I'll buy another one, watching you play through this has been so much fun. I can't wait to see your reactions to episode three!

41:00 Weird. Chloe's, "I'm sorry" sounds vaguely like Jaina's sorry emote in Hearthstone. And I can tell you from experience, if it's anything like that, then Chloe is most definitely NOT sorry.

The bottle collecting part is easily the worst part of this game. Still my GOTY, though.

I finished this game in a little over a week, and I'm so emotionally affected by it, it's strange. I don't think I've felt like this about any other game. Jesus, I'm feeling nostalgic for it already.

I think this is more than a game for me. Almost life changing.

Anyone know why these videos aren't uploaded to Youtube anymore? Only the first 2 were.

Kinda gutted that this is going to be concluded in a premium feature. I know it was never really meant to overtake the entire Choose Our Own Adventure feature, but after it made it two episodes and then a third I thought they would see it through for all of us that can't become premium members.

@liquid3600: If you can adequately prove that you can't, I don't think it's beyond reproach to funnel you copies of those videos specifically, if it means that much to you.

Good thing this is episodic, I'll buy the remaining episodes and play them.

I sure got Kate killed in mine, I didn't answer her phone call and probably wasn't the best talker. Its gonna be real interesting to see how different the game can play out if she lives.
