Looks like a lot of fun...I can remember many a nights wasted over this game it really doesn't feel like 10 years ago. I was kind of hoping when they announced it that maybe they'd add levels, but I'm still excited with just a straight up remake with the terminals to maybe fill in some more story.

Shit framerate. I actually enjoyed Halo 1 on PC, would take a few people into the afterlife to get this on PC.

What a joke: "It plays exactly like the original." And every other Halo game?  He's talking like there's between this huge game play advancement in the past 10 years.

So why would anyone want to play it twice? You're selling a graphical update. And its not like fans have had a shortage of Halo either. Changing between the two modes would be fun once or twice but is that what they're really selling this on? If you tried this on PC people would laugh given that you could make graphical mods.

Halo never had a flashing and annoying ''RELOAD" prompt.. Fucking 343 dumbing down...
OH. WAIT.

In this video the game looks alright and he said that this is not the final build.
In the pre-order bonus video the game looks pretty shit (maybe it was graphic style on the guns).
I'm confused about which one is showing the newer build.

Do most Halo fans really care about this graphical upgrade? (I'm not a Halo fan btw). It just seems so pointless.  This just comes across as milking more money out of the Halo cashcow with minimum effort.  If I wanna play Halo 1, I'll pull out my original (PC) copy and play that.

Is the framerate part of the "experience"? If so, forget it.

Not to be a wet blanket, but all I got from this is "we thought we could make a bundle of cash if we made it look better". I love the original Halo, but surely they have to make more than just graphical improvements for this?

No they don't they are doing far more than any other company is, when they do their HD re-releases.

I have one question: Can I place a whole bunch of grenades under the warthog on Silent Cartographer and launch it onto one of the cliffs? This may impact my purchasing decision.

That would be part of the Giant Bomb experience. When they re-encode trailers, we often end up with stuttering video that's pretty hard to watch. Youtube's 720p version is way smoother, so you can check that out. The game is still running at 30 fps as far as I can tell, but it's certainly much smoother than it appears here. If they added in a subtle motion-blur to the camera movement, the game would be perceived as much smoother, I would hazard to guess.

This game needed to feel exactly like it did ten years ago because shooters, not least games in the Halo franchise SHOULD NEVER EVOLVE!!! NEVER!!! EVOLUTION BAD, STALE REMAKES GOOD.

i wish they used their own engine instead of the reach engine cause it has terrible frame rate issues

I agree. Wonder if the classic vs updated graphics option is somehow bringing it down

YouTube doesn't support video above 30fps, nor do most video hosts.

@BUCK3TM4N: The graphics engine running on top is Saber's work, not the Reach engine.

People that are complaining over stupid things or just whatever, who cares. This is a chance to relive Halo with buddies over xbox live. Buy it or don't. You know what it is, you know how its gonna be, and we all know how disappointed we are with the multiplayer aspect (that being Halo Reach multiplayer with classic Halo maps...). Go complain about your framerate elsewhere. Go drag out the old xbox with Halo and compare that framerate. At least it is not 60 bucks.

"A gift to the fans..." that they have to pay $50-60 for. Cute.

@iTreefish: Unless they've said otherwise since I last heard, I believe the game is retailing for $40.

So strange to see them switch the engines from new to classic and back, weird how your memory lies to you

when he first started talking about how great the updated graphics were i didn't think much of them, then he switched to classic and i can't believe the game looked like that, i remember it looking closer to the new version

its a cool feature, i won't be buying this as i didn't enjoy the first one enough to buy it again but seems like a cool package for the die hard fans

I doubt it will play like that specific one, but it's nearly impossible to tell because all of the Halo games are so different from one another.

Microsoft stated when this was announced that this will play basically identically to Halo 1. It's literally all the old Halo 1 code with a new graphics engine laid on top of it. All the physics, all the controls, and apparently even all the level designs - everything about it is 1:1 with the original Halo 1.

I ain't no vidya game programmer, but I wonder if running both graphics engines is something that could drop the framerate from time to time. Seems like that can't be an easy thing to do.

This is a, hands down, day one purchase for me. I'm no crazy fanboy, but my friends and I had some absolutely great times playing the original Halo. Hell, we even went through the hassle of using those pre Xbox Live programs to play it online. I hope some of the dumb glitches are still intact, though I have to imagine that they may not be.

EDIT:

And clearly we still need to be able to send them Warthogs to space!

Actually, I'm not sure if there's been a system-link enabled game on the 360... Maybe the launch offerings?  XBL is all well and good, but the classic Halo multiplayer - crazy ass apps and all - would be a nice touch.
