I re-subbed just for this. I once tried DF, and this video made me realize I never even made it past the world creation. I laughed out loud.

Also i don't really think dave is exaggerating when he says that he has been playing it for 20 hours, i played it without using any kind of guide mod or help in any way and it took me a hell of alot more than 20 hours to manage anything even remotely similar to a proper fortress.

This game has an enormously steep learning curve, he has been studying the game hard in order to make sense of it all, a live broadcast of dwarf fortress not an easy task as he has to focus on the game as well as explaining what the hell is going on, i liked this episode and i hope he will continue it just maybe not with vinny as a wingman.

It's weird cuz the game is weird, but I would never have the patience to play something like this. That and that one dwarf who is a dabbling comedian. Working the small rooms and open mics mostly make this super worthwhile content. I'm sure it will pick up.

This video confirms that I can watch hours of absolutely anything the GB Flight Club plays. Fascinating stuff though. Bewildered Jeff at the end was a nice touch, too.

This is much more interesting than their previous video series attempt, Progress Dave.

Hope pt2 comes out soon because I am lonely. So very lonely.

Why would you do that? There's a wiki that explains everything. Just use it, people. It really makes getting into the gamey-game part of the game a lot easier.

Why would you do that? There's a wiki that explains everything. Just use it, people. It really makes getting into the gamey-game part of the game a lot easier.

Because it was before there was a proper wiki for dwarf fortress, and i still had alot of fun not knowing what the fuck i was doing half of the time.

Thats just the way i like playing games, way too many players ruined dark souls by buying the guide or checking wikis on the net, you youngsters nowadays just don't have the patience that gamers used to have *waves cane angrily"

Wholeheartedly agreeing with this dude. Games are infinitely more satisfying when you figure shit out on your own. Yeah, sometimes you'll make boneheaded mistakes, but just roll with it. It won't kill you (in real life, at least).

To answer the first poster: I'm probably older than you, son. To answer the second: obviously discovering things on your own can be satisfying, but there's no reason to take a super-complicated game like Dwarf Fortress and obfuscate its mechanics even more. Besides, you're going to run into plenty of randomness that will surprise the hell out of you, even if you do read everything on the Dwarf Fortress Wiki. I would encourage people to jump in if Dwarf Fortress seems interesting, though. Don't worry about making mistakes. Losing is fun.

Dave, I hope we get to see more of this soon! I imagine it is a time consuming job building a website, but why not have a little downtime with building a fortress for dwarves and record it for your virtual friends?

So bummed that I missed the live stream of this. Can't wait for the next episode. My wife, who likes video games, after watching the majority of this video with me, turned to me and asked, "Why would you ever want to play that!?" I couldn't give her a good answer, but I played it, thanks to Dave's encouragement, and I love it. Thanks Dave, Vinny, and Drew.

Damn. This is the kind of game where I love that it exists, but I'd never play it myself- I'd rather only watch Dave play it. Kind of like Drew and flight sims :P
