You can apparently have, like, 8 or 9 people in a party all fighting at once. Crazy!

*EDIT* 7! It was right there in the trailer.

I wish JRPGs were less cheezy and had better voice acting.

I enjoyed The Last Hope quite a bit, yet with so many RPGs on the horizon, I'm not sure if I can spend my money and time on this one. I never know what might end up being a gem for me though. Even if it isn't received well critically, I might end up really enjoying it.

I love me some JRPGs and I've always liked Star Ocean but this.. just doesn't look very good.

Wow I think its time to dip my toes into star ocean finally ... my friend told me to play star ocean 2 or 3 for the PS 2 and gave me a copy and I went through like a 17 hour introduction before I said man forget this.

Eh, I'm open to it in theory, but the 6 year old in a parka as a central character is kind of a dealbreaker.

Star Ocean games, like the Tales games, annoy me to no end with their mediocrity.

(I already ordered my copy months ago)

Too bad the PS3 version is Japan exclusive. Maybe a PC release will happen at some point, or maybe I'll get a PS4 Neo at some point.

I the facial animations are really bad. They look unexpressive, like dolls almost. The game itself looks very pretty but in this day and age, why do the face models look so bad. :/

@dagas: Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at, too. I've no idea why they wouldn't localize it for all platforms they released on. It can't be that much more work?

The gameplay looks cool as hell, but everything else seems not so great. Even anime has gotten better and more expressive faces than that these days. Hell the Tales of games do a pretty good job of this in the video game world as well. I also hope the writing and voice acting here was just placeholders, because I'm gonna be pretty annoyed if this is a repeat of Star Ocean 4. Fun gameplay can only take me so far in a JRPG man. I guess I can handle those female character eyes (which would look weird even in anime) and doll faces if the writing and voice acting is good, but judging from what I'm hearing its gonna be like Star Ocean 4 and that makes me sad.

Look just... be a better game than Star Ocean 4. It's a low bar I believe in you.

Star Ocean 1 was the only game in this series that I ever beat. I got like halfway through 2 and I think after seeing this I will just hang up my SO hat.

This trailer manages to say so much without really saying anything. Maybe it's just me but I still have no idea what the basic story premise of the game even is from this; just seems like a collection of typical shounen anime lines thrown together from various parts of the game...

SO3 is among my favorite games of all time but I hated 4 and hearing that this seems to be going the same way is very disheartening.

It just can't have a story that's worse than Star Ocean 4's (seriously, that's impossible), so it already has that going for it.

It does look really low budget though, which sucks, but the combat system should still be great, so I'll most likely get it.

If this wasn't coming out the same day as Tokyo Mirage Sessions I'd be all over this. I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually. There's just so many good games sprinkled throughout the rest of this year and next.

Remember how SO3 it's revealed that the series takes place in an MMO, you're all playing NPCs, and you kill the lead designer at the of the game?
I really like the first and second game though I'd imagine I would not be able to go back to either of them. I'm not the target audience of these games but I don't understand what some folks enjoy about them anymore. Ah well.

@d_w: Nope I don't remember that all and I put like 90 hours into that game. Only thing I remember is absolutely hating the final boss of that game.

The combat is always really fun in the Star Ocean games, but the writing is beyond juvenile. I don't think there's a single person at the developer over the age of 15. I've purchased and attempted to play through every Star Ocean game, but aside from the snes game I've never been able to power through the painful writing and voice acting.

@pawel_proxy: The worst part about that is that a lot of people have grown to expect and even demand that from JRPGs ovre the years.

@hassun Sure, but its hard for me to imagine that good voice acting and less "Believe in yourself!" would do badly. Theres more than enough of these type games for the nostalgic. At least it feels that way for the less initiated (myself).

@pawel_proxy: I think a lot of that could also be fixed with good localisation. Some stuff that sounds normal in Japanese might sound terrible in English, etc.

Want to give this a chance but GOD DAMN IT with the nonsensical trailer dialogue. Just... having them say nothing would be better. It's so cheesy!!

@hassun Don't know enough/any Japanese so can't be sure but either way localization and voice acting don't seem like things that are hard to do compared to other development costs. Though the fact they generally don't do it well makes me wonder. Just hope they make it more approachable(?) and less ...animeish.
