Still DOA at its core, but with a bit more class to match with the times, I’m in!

(I’m sure they will do their fan service dlc down the road)

That up close clash system looks like a mix of injustice and the yakuza 6 heat moves

@flstyle: Yeah they talked about actually toning that stuff down (jiggle physics, stripper costumes, etc.).

Personally, I'm kind of surprised by this announcement. Not all that long ago the DOA team made a tearful goodbye video, implying that the series was being put on ice until further notice.

Brad Marino, that is the correct caption.

We would also have accepted something with -SAME TIME-.

@katpottz: The character models dont look that different but the lighting is definitely a lot better, one of the things they're touting is drastically improved damage models and facial expressions.

Seems legit.

I'm glad DOA is back again, especially given the sad way Team Ninja claimed they were leaving the series behind, giving a tearful tribute to one of the top players of the tournament scene who died, RIP. As far as them toning down the fanservice of the female characters, there is plenty of DOA Rule 34 stuff around the net for those people wanting to their Kasumi fix... so to speak.

@hassun: It seems like fighting games are very popular again at the moment, so despite their previous intent (or deception) now seems as good a time to bring DOA back. If 2008 was the resurgence of Street Fighter, 2018 is the year of, "thanks Street Fighter, but we've got this."

Wow, what a surprise to wake up to. I'm one of the few people who thought DOA5 was legitimately a ton of fun, so I'm really glad the franchise is continuing to exist beyond the Xtreme gacha stuff.

Honestly these games have my favorite fighting mechanics. Hope they really did tone the boob physics down so I don't feel like I'm shaming my entire extended family by playing it.

This is what I REALLY hate about this series and on of the top the reasons I never bought DOA5; from what I remember the graphics were a downgrade compared to the console version.

I'm kinda hoping this takes a more traditional format after 5 Last Round - I still have a ton of affinity for the series from all my time spent with DOA2, but the model for 5LR got me to play a few rounds and then never actually commit to buying any of it. I still love fighting games in general, though, and I want good things for this franchise, so here's hoping they step up to the plate here.

@aseinsha: I mean thats probably the entire reason for them making a new game. this game looks maybe 5-10% sharper than doa 5, but its new so they can rerelease and resell all their dlc costumes again. At this point they've tuned their rerelease strategy so well, this game will have the same treatment as doa 5 without the excuse of new consoles.

Good to see this coming back after that weird End-of-Development video for Dead of Alive 5.

Pleased to read about the initial promise to tone down the skeeviness of the series. I mean, have a little T&A. Lets just not go full fetish costume and jelly boobs from the get-go.

I'm down for another DOA. The last one I played for was 3 so it might be a good time to get back into it if it's any good. Lot of good fighting games these past couple of years!

@hassun: That was simply a goodbye to DOA5 since it had been getting DLC up until that point. They never said anything about DOA as a series.

This seems really smart on two levels. DOA is already known for its sexy stuff; you don't need that in the opening salvo. Instead, surprise people by presenting a fairly by the numbers fighting game with potentially broader appeal, while you know that your base of individuals who are in it for the less savory elements will buy the DLC packs that will generally not depreciate in value (moreover, if they want the heavier sex appeal, that additional purchase becomes an *expectation*). Of course, we haven't seen the alternate costumes in game, but it would be neat to be able to think about getting a DOA game that I can actually play at base without feeling at some level like a skeeve.

Curious about the mechanics. (Which is something I didn't expect to be saying about a new DOA.)

Might just be trailer effects, but they seem to be showing off some sort of powerful bursty unreactable stuff. Are these pressure tools that you get to pull out to frame trap outside of typical pressure range? Is there meter involved? Looks cool.

Im just glad Fighting Games are still getting the green light. Now that I'm more open to 3D fighters I will most likely give this game a shot having not played any DoA before.

I'd just like to mention that they paid a lot of lip service to toning down the sexualization prior to DOA5's release, so don't expect a major change on that front. Aside from that, this is a totally awesome surprise. New DOA and Soul Calibur in relatively close succession = a very happy cannoli.

This is a nice surprise. Although I’m super excited for Soul Caliber VI, so I’m less pumped about this now than I would be A few years ago.

This is cool. I heard they stopped making DOA "for now" so I didn't expect another one so soon but apparently the torch was passed to a new guy, Yohei Shimbori, who is now the director and producer of the game and has a past of extreme fighting game enthusiasm where he tried to get fighting games to be recognized as a sport way before "esports" was a thing. Looks like he wants to tone down fanservice in favor of making it a cool and more believable fighter that portrays the characters with more realistic physics and attire which is fine by me.

I'm no prude when it comes to sexy stuff but I'd like for it to stay it in the games and other material specifically designed for that stuff. If I play an actual video game with well designed gameplay and there's boobs flying everywhere for no reason it just feels dumb and makes it feel like a cheap game just trying to cash in on sex appeal. I'm sure higher-ups at Koei Tecmo will make them put in skimpy outfits as DLC later on because it will make money but unless the director himself changes his stance on the core visual style looks like he's someone I can repsect.

Maybe it's just me, but this seems to be going back to more in line with DOA 2 then the newer games. Not that I'm complaining as that is still one of my all time favorites of this series.

DOA needs more fanservice, not less. Still, I doubt them somewhat on their word, considering they said the same thing with DOA5.

Even if they are serious, it's coming to PC day one, so mods will quickly fix that issue.

I like Dead or Alive's mechanics, but I feel like it sees some of the least meaningful change from one game to the next of any franchise. Looks like they're at least superficially looking to fix that, though.

While I'm sure there will be plenty of fanservice DLC, probably $100+ of it, they made some very conscious choices here when they opted to focus on the dudes in the trailer.

My first thought was look at them getting all serious, are they going after Tekken or something?

My second thought was that serious is not actually what I'm looking for in a DOA.

My third thought was that this trailer is disingenuous to the franchise or my idea of what this franchise is.

My fourth thought was that I'm overthinking things.

am hyped...for ninja gaiden and team ninja. played a DOA game on Dreamcast and maybe one on ps3, so the franchise is largely unknown. had been loving nioh and the combat team ninja went with in that souls like game. Hoping foe legacy controller support as per usual
