Hard to tell what the game will be like, but I mostly enjoyed the first 2 and Larian. Presumably, this will be 5th edition DnD?

Man, as much as I want this to be good (and have no reason to doubt Larian Studios will deliver on it), part of me just kinda go "... but why?" Throne of Bhaal ended so definitively and on such a high note (to what I still think of, overall, as the best RPG series of all time), that to call anything Baldur's Gate with the number 3 next to it so long after the fact just kinda irks me.

Maybe it's a silly thing to get hung up on, but if they had just used the name without implying it was a direct sequel I would be much more onboard. And if it is a full-on direct sequel, well... maybe just don't?... Please?

@feckless: Then you aren't going to like what they did to Star Wars after Empire...

@feckless: I can think of couple reasons to use the BG name:
1) They want to make it clear as to what style of game it will be (Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale games all play little bit differently).

2) It also tells us where the story takes place, which is confirmed by the trailer. Guard who is being attacked by mindflayer is wearing emblem of the Flaming Fist, who serve as guards for the city of Baldur's Gate. I suspect that the story begins from there and then expands further to the north because there is plenty of unexplored area and locations that hasn't been visited in the games before. I don't think it is going to follow-up on the story of BG2 rather than it's own thing that may at most reference things that happened in previous games. Too long time has passed since previous game and that story was wrapped up anyways.

IIRC it's set 100 years after BG2. It'll use adapted D&D 5 rules. No word on whether it's ARPG, RTwP or turn-based yet, or whether it's isometric or something else.

I haven't been excited for any game since MGS5, time to hype up again, hopefully won't be as disappointed.

Well no need for the rest of E3. This is definitely going to be the most hyped announcement for me. No reason for anything else to show up, IMO.

I was hoping for something a little more subtle for a plot line, but I guess this will do.

Oh ffs not the Illithids; I still remember the first time I got imprisoned in their dungeon in my first playthrough of BGII. And that's almost two decades ago.
