I dont know if I need to say this, but Coke Zero and Coke Zero Sugar have literally no difference as far as their ingredients. Its just a name change. If you actually look at the ingredients Diet Coke is closer to a zero sugar Coke as it has everything regular Coke has but the HFCS is replaced with Aspartame.

Random couch dude is right guys. Its all in your head.

@murdoc_:Dont believe the lies. I compared the ingredients of an older bottle of Coke Zero against Coke Zero Sugar and there's NO DIFFERENCE. Its the same stuff, duder.

@luchalma: Yeah, there's actually a map on Google that shows where in the world people like to call the drink or at least the United States that I've seen. I won't post it, but if you just type in 'a map of soda' you'll get it on Google images.

Wasn't the hole purpose of Coke Zero was that it had ZERO sugar? Or was it ZERO Calories?

Hmm... I've never been a fan of diet coke, and I never tried the old coke zero... but if this is thick like a regular coke, while also being zero calories, I might wanna check this out!

Although, the mention of a chemically aftertaste makes me think it might not taste quite exactly like regular coke.

It DEFINITELY does not. In fact, it has a stronger "fake sugar" aftertaste than before, even. Coke thinks that people want excessive sweetness, they even tried to put in Stevia ON TOP of the regular amount of high fructose corn syrup they put in Vitamin Water and it tasted horrible, luckily the backlash was big enough that they changed it right back within a few months...

@monkeyking1969:

I've not seen any scientific study that can conclude that artificial sweeteners have any harmful effect on the body. There's actually not much in common among the various sweeteners. Just that they're all sweet tasting. All I ever see claiming negative effects are articles that misinterpret studies and don't understand the science.

Also, if you want to sweeten your drinks don't use Splenda. It's only 1.2% sucralose. The rest is maltodextrin, which has calories and is used as filler to allow people to use it in the same measurements as sugar. Sucralose is 600x sweeter than sugar. If you just buy pure sucralose powder you get way more of the sweetener for the price. And it's really neat that you can perfectly sweeten your coffee or tea with 1/64th a teaspoon of it.

Well, here you go then! There are plenty, and yes they are not promoted much by US media, but artificial sweeteners, at LEAST aspartame, are quite harmful and ALSO cause weight gain over the long term, not weight loss! This is because aspartame processes into a metabolite that is similar to formaldehyde (or maybe it technically IS formaldehyde) and that gets stored in your fat cells, which makes it difficult for your body to then process that fat and get rid of it (use it for fuel):

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/04/21/study-links-diet-soda-to-higher-risk-of-stroke-dementia/?utm_term=.4573dcaea4a3

http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/18/health/where-do-we-stand-artificial-sweeteners/index.html

That's just a few. There is enough info out there now that any PhD nutritionist worth their salt will tell you to eat/drink food with unrefined cane sugar over aspartame or some of the other artificial sweeteners (Stevia isn't great for you either).

If you want to lose weight (or care about your health!), do not consume artificial sweeteners. Try drinking lightly sweetened green tea for a while (just 2-3 weeks) and you'll hate the taste of too-sweet or artificially-sweet beverages.

@zombievac:

"While emphasizing that the research did not show causation, only a correlation"

That study back in July was a real laugh. All it proved was that there's a correlation between people being fat/having health problems and people consuming non-nutrient sweeteners. Which, of course that correlation exists. Overweight people and those with health concerns are much more likely to cut sugar in favour of the non-nutrient stuff. But here's the thing, these people may be cutting high-calorie sodas and replacing it with another cheeseburger. Even if they aren't replacing those calories though, if you're consuming 5000 calories a day then you're likely still going to gain weight even if you cut the sugar.

As for your aspartame factoid, well...

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/aspartame.asp

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/aspartame-isnt-bad-says-chemistry/

Over time, methanol can produce the known carcinogen formaldehyde. While this might seem scary, the video claims that the body actually produces and uses 1,000 times more formaldehyde than you could consume through aspartame. After helping to make important proteins, formaldehyde gets turned into formic acid and exits the body through urine.

Be careful out there. There's a lot of fear mongering about artificially sweeteners and very little substance.

Sure, I'm fully aware of the other side of the argument. Just keep in mind the massive amount of unscientific, or purposely designed, or purposely misinterpreted "studies" that the industry that benefits from this, which is MASSIVE, is doing to keep people in the dark.

That's why I look at the actual science, who does it, and how it's controlled. The FDA, BTW, now has a program where you can pay them to just accept your own studies on your products safety and they'll approve it (for Drugs, at least... food I think is fine and automatically approved until there's a problem, and then people can theoretically sue after the damage is done - IF they can prove that the aspartame or whatever was THE cause of their illness over the long term, which is very very hard to do!). That should tell you a lot about how much they're actually protecting us... in many cases these days, it's practically the opposite.

To each their own, of course. Smoking is fine with me too, but people could get the same effects/pleasure/whatever in safer ways with nicotine delivery systems other than smoke filled with every toxic substance you can think of.

The same applies here really, over the long term, daily/regular use of sugar or many artificial sweeteners is well known by the real scientists (which is my opinion, though the people I trust REALLY know their stuff), and they don't think it's worth the risk. You have plenty of drink options.
