Nice, stylish trailer, though. Although the whole "it'll be out when it's ready" thing makes CD Projekt feel like they are pushing a bit too hard to come across as... well, Valve.

Well it is based on something that was already called Cyberpunk, although I agree that they should have come up with a better name.

I didn't know that bit. What is this extremely generic-named property then? An RPG? Does that mean that there is a chance this isn't an action game? I crave more sci-fi hardcore RPGs. I crave even more modern-day RPGs, but that's probably a lost fight already, so I'll take what I can get.

If you can't read it:

All that's not all we are about to reveal our other project which is much closer to being completed and yes it will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story you can probably guess the game we're talking about on the 5th of february it will be all clear

They're going to buy the Saints Row franchise from THQ and release Saints Row 4?

I believe they got the creator of the original Cyberpunkt P&P games on board, plus the official license (Or something like that?). So why not go with a well known and established franchise name? That way people at least know what to expect to a certain degree.

And actually it had been 3D Realms with Duke Nukem Forever that keyed the "when it's done" phrase first afaik. Sure Valve time is a similar concept but one could argue that even Blizzard has used that exact same sentiment before too.

I also don't think CD Projekt is pushing it hard, imho they are among the few developers out there that stay true to their roots and still respect their customer base even after making it big time. That's not something one should take for granted (Bioware, Blizzard *cough cough*) So if anybody has the right to drop a line like that and still stay believable, it's CD Projekt.

There's actually no chance it isn't an RPG, since it's already announced that it's an RPG, by a studio that only makes RPGS..

Also it's about damn time a game about personal responsibility is made! Them kids need to learn.

Announcement teasers are such a waste of everyone's time. Especially when what the game actually is isn't even readily apparent. Either give me a gameplay trailer or just put a text announcement with a screenshot or two out there. I couldn't care less about your bloody boob dress lady and bullet fetish.

Well, they're two for two, but I don't know that I'd extrapolate to that extent based on that, really. Especially if they have a Witcher 3 coming...

...and it's not like The Witcher 2 is a particularly old-school RPG, what with the real time, actiony, 360 controller-driven combat and all.

Sure, but at that point why even raise the point in the teaser? And they're quite cheeky about it, too, with the meaningful pause before the text and all that. Not that they're not entitled to release the game when they damn well please, but that touch at the end of the trailer felt a bit off to me. Definitely not even close to a dealbreaker, though.

As for the franchise name... meh. I hadn't heard of The Witcher and I hadn't heard of this, and I'm pretty darn nerdy. The difference being that "The Witcher" is actually a pretty cool title that doesn't lead to any misconceptions and sounds nice and marketable. Cyberpunk... not so much. I feel like having a proper title with the Cyberpunk thing attached as a subtitle ("Cyborg Bulletproof Seminaked Ladies: A Cyberpunk Adventure"!) would have been a better choice, along the lines of the Dawn of War series, for instance. Again, not a dealbreaker, but it's not like we have anything else to discuss from this, so...

Well I think teasers for sequels have some merit since you can speculate about story and gameplay based on past games and from teaser footage. But yeah, a teaser for a new game that we barely know anything about is kinda useless.

In my personal fantasy world this game will be the moment CD Projekt RED goes really crazy and takes that "choices & consequences" concept to a whole new level. No way to tell either way just with this little teaser of course. Style looks potentially interesting though.

They did get the creator on board and the license, but I think that the creator is more of a consonantal then one of the guys that is creating the story. Kinda like what George. A.A. Martin does for game of thrones. Either way I did not get the same vibe as you guys did with the ghost in the shell. Maybe more of a Judge Dredd feel mixed with bladerunner.

Ghost in the Shell is more or less, how should I put it without pissing someone off mmh. Its more grand in scale then Bladerunner is because of the whole manga-thing going on with it. So you get the films and the anime series mixed into it that made it popular with us nerds, and then some of us read the Manga and got kinda mindf**'ed. even if the whole series was a mindF**k to begin with.

So mix in philosophy and mindhacking then yeah, this will be a bladerunner/Ghost in the Shell thing going on. Which would be pretty awesome.

@NoelVeiga: Well people have been looking forward for a more specific release date on this since the very first announcement a while back. So i guess the suspenseful pause had been solely there to tease those people expecting to see a more solid release date.

The reason why they announce/tease it so early is probably for a recruitment drive to get more people on board, as evident by the message on www.cyberpunk.net. Tbh i don't care about games getting announced that early, as long as they go silent for a while after, so the game moves out of the spotlight again. The way worse thing to do is announce a game 2 years before release and spending 2 years teasing people with tons of footage from the game every week, to a point where you probably don't even need to bother it anymore because all the fun stuff is spoiled.

I neither heard of The Witcher or "Cyberpunk the game" before, i also consider myself pretty nerdy but i'm not into P&P games, so that explains the lack of popularity among the "regular nerds". But it seems like the Cyberpunk P&P games had been all the rage at some point, as evident by it's wikipedia article . They probably paid something for that license, so not using it would be a waste of popularity and money. And to people familiar with the original Cyberpunk P&P games this does not leave a lot of room for misconceptions, it's the video game version of an P&P game, just like Dungeons&Dragons or like Might&Magic the video game version of an Card game. Notice how they even stay true to the naming of the original Cyberpunk P&P games by just adding a different year as subtitle. At least they are staying true to the roots of the original source material, unlike some other cyberpunkish re imaginings in recent history (Syndicate).
