Here's David Jaffe's New Game, Drawn to Death

I like David Jaffe a great deal.

I do not think this game is for me.

Jaffe apologized on twitter for using that word, and said he didn't realize it was offensive. No reason to be mad at him for a simple mistake.

So they made Gunz: The Duel but with an art style that looks super impractical?

This art style is insane. Really cool.

As someone who spent about 90% of his time doodling in notebooks in school (not this aesthetic, but I drew some weird looking stuff) this is an awesome idea. I can appreciate it on that level even if it ends up being a game I don't want to play. Which is likely cause muliplayer 3rd person games don't work for me most of the time.

I bet this would be pretty great...back in 1998.

The visuals sort of appeal to me but the game itself really doesn't. Competitive games where you shoot each other do nothing for me.

This can't be "pre-alpha", though right? It looks almost complete.

arena shooter multiplayer is boring for me, but i like the art design.

This is basically Twisted Metal without the cars, as anyone who's played those games can attest to. In other words, Jeff might actually like this.

Buuuuut, man, I do not like that art style.

I like the art style, in theory that is. It looks however drawn by a 16 years old student with violent tendencies which I can't identify with for one bit. And the idea of of a multiplayer arena shooter doesn't interest me at all.
I like Jaffe but I'm not sure if I like any of his games (any more). Maybe I'm getting old...

For a high school boy's note book there aren't enough doodles of penises or crudely drawn sluts.

Both of which will likely get a game designer into trouble these days, but I'm just saying, it doesn't stay true to its own premise.

Could be pretty promising if you think of it in that regard.

Art style had potential but not after this grimey execution.

The art style is interesting but it just seems too... dirty? It's not sharp enough, like the kid's pen/pencil is really really shitty or something.

The actual gameplay seems intriguing but I'm just tired of yet another TPS.

Mary Kish wishes to stomp on prehistoric butterflies to make a The Last Guardian release happen! I figured it out yoy guys, this is a morse code for TLG.

Please tell me who this is supposed to appeal to... so I can stay away from them.

My comments have nothing to do with who is developing this game. And i'm fine with ultra-violence. The art is just so unpleasant to look at. Who is pumping there fist to a "School notebook scribbles" art-style?

I've always liked the handrawn look, but more ballpoint universe madness or nothing turns into everything style. Otherwise it reminds me of Madworld and I like the Punk style. But the music feels too repetitive and quake(?) era-ish, adding to the generic feel the gameplay lets on. There's just too many Arena based shooters with their one little quirk already.

I'm sorry but if my kid had drawings like that in his notebook I would be getting him some professional help.

Its good that he is trying something novel, art style at least if not substance, but its not for me.

@batalskar: If you don't want people to comment on your work don't release it until it finished. In fact he may welcome the comments on it as why else would you issue a pre-alph game-play video if not to gauge how it is received and maybe modify some of the features.

I got to play this at PSX, and can confirm that it is both fast-paced fun and also extremely early. There wasn't any music, the menus looked like placeholders, etc. So while the style and art is there, I would wait a bit to see how this evolves through development becuase it is early. The cool thing was, after playing it, we got to speak to the devs and Jaffe and they were asking what we liked, didn't like, things we would want to see added. Almost unanimously, people said they would like a bit more color. Not necessarily change the art style, but a lot of people were talking about how cool it would be to have a little more like a colored in with color pencils look. It was fun though.
