I could care less about match gameplay tbh. I find myself doing more simulation than actual playing in all sports games now. I'd rather be a GM and manage my Dynasties in EA Sports games than play matches, and in WWE 13 I'd rather just create awesome storylines in Universe Mode instead of actually playing matches. This Universe Mode seems pretty impressive.

Such a shame that the game still isn't very fun to play.

The new universe mode looks fantastic.

AC3 will end up being put on the back burner for probably 1-2 weeks.

The Rise and Fall of ECW is such a sham, its practically a whitewashed version of ECW history.

I'd look into anything made by Kayfabe Commentaries if you want some real documentary style wrestling coverage. They make some really awesome videos. I love the idea behind the Guest Booker series, their Shoot Interviews are amazing, and their "Timeline: the History of ___" series is quite good also. I would look for the Timeline: the History of ECW 1997 (as told by Sabu).

Universe mode seems cool, but the gameplay in wrestling games is so boring now, making the coolest storyline mode has always been the focus of wrestling games it seems, but they hardly ever make any actual changes to the gameplay.

I wish it was Jeff doing this interview with Paul Heyman, that would be an amazing interview.

If you think WWE '13 looks the same and feels the same as Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 you are insanely mistaken. Hell, this looks leaps above WWE '12.

Vince doesnt even want to make wrestling shows anymore, thatrs why. He just makes soap operas with sweaty men. There are plenty of people like Jim Cornette and Paul around who are great creative wrestling minds and know the workings of the business, but the heads of the major Federations just want to produce television shows. No one is actually interested in producing wrestling.

Well, Jim Cornette just finished killing Ring of Honor so I'm not sure he's the creative genius everyone thinks he is. Cornette did have a great mind for the business but unfortunately, that mind hasn't evolved in over a decade. I think Heyman still has plenty to give to wrestling and honestly, his character is one of the best things about current WWE TV so he's not being completely wasted.

@LegendaryChopChop: I am apparently insanely mistaken then. Every year, ESPECIALLY last year, they talk about whatever big huge changes they're making to the system, and then within 30 minutes of picking it up, it feels exactly the same.

13 will be no different, but they're hoping the attitude era guys will distract you long enough that you won't notice. As far as I can tell, the only reason to play this will be to see how hilariously wrong their revisionist history on the attitude era is.

SVR 2011 and WWE 12 felt nothing the same. The differences in gameplay is astronomical and WWE '12 is a whole lot better than SVR 2011. Considering they went back to a button interface over the very meh control stick stuff, that made 12 an amazing experience over 2011 and makes 2011 hard to go back to despite the very good roster.

While the jump between 12 and 13 won't be as big, the gameplay engine has some good tweaks, and the OMG Moments will add a lot of depth to the gameplay. Plus, Story Designer bits are now in Universe Mode finally, so that will increase the longevity.

I don't care too much about the Attitude era features, but they have gone above and beyond for it and the current roster (I care for the current stuff mostly).

The WWE games aren't broken from a gameplay mechanic if you know how to play it. I've had some incredible matches on 12 and 13 will just make it sweeter with the gameplay fixes and additions.

I will be picking this up for sure, but probably not for a couple of months after release. I hear that the games are pretty similar every year, but considering '07 was the last one I played I think it's time for a new one.

I wonder how easily they were able to tear down wrestling storylines to common tropes. I bet it was pretty easy.

Thats a shame, i've slipped on following ROH as much as i used to. But im such a mark for Cornie i cant help it. He is a great, outspoken individual. I think there is still something to be gleaned from a mind like Jim's but you are right, he is *Extremely* old-school. That old school booking mentallity is hard to work in the post wrestling television world. But at least he's stll around to give interesting shoot interviews. I still thing the Cornie youshoots are some of the best wrestling interviews i've watched in a long time. Dude talks up a storm.

Backstage politics led to Heyman leaving the wrestling business for years. He only came back to work with Lesnar, and now Punk, as an on screen character, but apparently just recently Vince has asked for his input on a few storylines.

Conversation trees/branching storylines in a WWE game? Before that feature shows up in a proper Final Fantasy game (I'm ignoring the half-assed version implemented in Final Fantasy XIII-2)? This is madness.

At any rate, all I can say is, I miss WWE All Stars. Yuke's puts a ton of work into the production of these games, and the feature set is always impressive and ambitious. But the core gameplay blows, especially compared to THQ San Diego's arcadey fighter/wrestler hybrid. I can't believe THQ closed that studio. They were MUCH better at making great animations and responsive controls - two kind ofimportant elements when you're making any sort of fighting game - than Yuke's is. All Stars was the best playing wrestling game since Friday Night Slam Masters on SNES.

That being said, can't wait for the Quick Look! Hope Jeff goes all out and makes a Giant Bomb-themed WWE TV Show and PPV in this puppy!

That's so true, man. I remembered about WWE All Stars and played some of it again just the other day to see if it still holds up and damn - that's a masterpiece of a game! That arcade style wrestling/fighting engine should be norm.

Also, let's not forget about Def Jam Vendetta and Def Jam Fight for NY.

I agree also with the Saturday Night Slam Masters - Capcom should remake it in HD to amend their RE 6 fiasco at least.

Treating wrestling like a sports sim franchise - the biggest and most stupid mistake I ever seen!

What can I say? Corporate America, political correctness, soccer moms and old boring jewish accountants deciding what's interesting and cool to watch and listen - yeah, that happened...

Treating wrestling like a sports sim franchise - the biggest and most stupid mistake I ever seen!

Except for the fact that it's what wrestling fans want. Have you noticed that the people who love WWE All Stars so much are rarely fans of the current WWE product? The people who actually turn into the show every week want a sports simulation game. They want their version of Madden, with the annual costume updates and characters. On the Xbox alone WWE '12 sold a million copies. All Stars sold about 200,000 on the same platform.

I don't see what's so crazy about selling wrestling games to wrestling fans. It's the same strategy behind Madden and other sports simulation games. They aren't making arcade-y, fun-for-everyone games. They are selling to a specific market, and it is working. People like Jeff Gerstmann claim that it's the funniest a wrestling game has been in years, and that's fine, but he is also an example of someone whose appreciation for wrestling is purely nostalgic. That's not enough passion to form a game around.
