As someone who was born in 1991 and didn't see any Jurassic Park movie until after I'd read both the first Jurassic Park and The Lost World in 5th or 6th grades... I was always put off by the movies. I was at an age where the dissonances between the movies and the books just bugged the shit out of me, and while I appreciate them both a bit more nowadays, it's just one of the first examples of "man, movies based on books SUUUUCK" for the most part is how I remember them.

Hey , do you have Jurassic Park: Chaos Island in that pile of games? For some reason that was the Jurassic Park game that stuck with me.

Also the Gameboy version: just as shitty if not worse, because everything is green.

The in-game music for the NES game sounds a lot like the classic C64 loader track for Comic Bakery by Martin Galway:

Edit: Apparently a few others had noticed too.

Anyone else noticed that the first game has Comic Bakery for music?

Oh, thank god someone else said this! I missed this live and probably would have shouted this at everyone. Comic Bakery is arguably the most famous C64/Amiga cracker tune of all time. The GB Jurassic Park game had a version of it, too.

I noticed :)

Holy shit, Comic Bakery! It's been literal decades!

Thanks for blowing my mind out my earholes all over again.

I remember thinking the SNES Jurassic Park game was kind of cool. Freaky too. Then again, I was like five.

Either way I'm surprised the internet hasn't arrived yet - after reading all those youtube comments this has to be the worst combination imaginable for some people... I mean, not only is this a Patrick video, but it lets him mention Jurassic Park "any chance he gets" as much as he wants, for an hour.

Let me be the guy then. Patrick's fine, don't get all the general venom that's spewed in his direction.

But! I've just finished this feature, and as established on several occasions prior, he really doesn't know jack shit about Jurassic Park, the movies or the games. As always, super hilarious in the context of him so much wanting to appear knowledgeable about these things, bragging about watching the first movie 10 times in the theater etc.

He doesn't say that his a dinosaur or even a Jurassic Park buff though, just that he loves the movie... You don't have to be all knowledgeable about a subject to love it deeply ;)

Indeed. Heck my father and I watched that movie like 10 times as well but it's not like we know all the lines by heart, can name every dinosaur, or actor. You also keep noticing new stuff and well.. time does funny things to memory. Did they joke about it at some point, like say he's GB's resident jurassic park niche expert?

Also, JP2 was cool as hell to watch as a kid. I thought 3 was pretty stupid, especially with the nokia ring tone stuff. New one is probably gonna be terrible if they use CGI. Those older movies still hold up today and a lot of that is very much thanks to the use of mechanical puppets.

I was waiting, WAITING for the SNES first persion section because I remember that blowing our minds as kids and I suspected it would not hold up at all. "Boy do I hate being right all the time." We were stupid children.

That's a fair thing to say, but 15 years down the line a lot of what we're playing and liking now will be seen as horrible.

SNES Jurassic Park holds up a lot better than other Jurassic Park games, IMO.

I agree that it holds up the best, and I agree that some of the stuff we play now will be seen as low res or unrealistic in a decade and a half. I was just lamenting my lost childhood wonder at a first person game on my TV... with DINOSAURS!

I liked Jurassic Park 3 more than Lost World... which I sort of hated.

The lost world was pretty good sans the back half. Basically, when they're on the island, it was fucking awesome. I actually really did not care for the third movie that much. I think it was just kind of played out at that point. The first two movies line up pretty well with Alien and Aliens. The third Alien movie was lame and the fourth was really fucking stupid in a way I sort of enjoyed. So maybe Jurassic Park 4 will be super dumb and bad but I'll enjoy it ironically? Well... let's just hope it's a good movie.

I had the NES version when I was little. I had no idea back then you had to destroy/collect the eggs to progress... (I was very young.) Still remember that music off by heart though!

Late to the party, but glad I wasn't the only one who freaked out and thought I hallucinated Comic Bakery. I looked it up and it seems like the dude what composed the music for this game and Martin Galway worked for Ocean at the same time so they were, I guess, mutually okay with him making a cover/remix for the NES and putting it in another game. Weird, though...

Edit: Okay, that's it, I'm downloading the soundtrack for that SNES game. Gimme, Zophar, I need to give this a more careful listen...

@Rox360:

i don't know if you've ever listened to the 'VGMpire" podcast, but episode 13 has an interesting segment specifically dealing with this piece of music. worth checking out (both the podcast and the episode) if you're into video game tunes!

I was going to declare SNES JP the best JP, until that ugly FPS segment appeared.

So instead I declare Genesis JP the best JP because, well, Raptors can kick down doors in that version. (duh)

I love Jurassic Park, but find Patrick too annoying to watch for long stretches at any one time. Hmmm... I think my love of videogames and Jurassic Park outweigh my Patrick dislike, so away we go!

That first person segment sure was something.

This video has reminded me that I really need to get around to watching those JP blu-rays I bought a while ago.

Without a doubt, my favorite JP game from this era has to have been the Amiga/PC game. It was an overhead adventure similar to the SNES game but with better visual design and more interesting gameplay.

Man, their scan converter is just awful. The Genesis didn't look half that bad. Half the screen is flickering like crazy. The colors are all wrong. It's blurry as hell. Wow.

I bet this has been pointed out a bunch of times, but Ian Malcolm does not die at the end of the novel and is the main character in the second one
