I was kind of interested in the full guitar but now I am wondering if it is better to buy the button guitar and save the extra money for a separate "real" guitar (We have 2 acoustic guitars but nothing electric). I have a feeling you'd be sacrificing quality for that added technology.

The other question I have is how fragile those strings on the button guitar are, and what happens if they break. I have no idea what they are made of or how replaceable they are.

@Rasgueado: Apparently they're going to release MIDI adapters alongside the game so that your MIDI keyboards and guitars WILL work along side the game. MIDI drum kits with a Rock Band brain already seem to work at this point, so I'm certain your guitar will too. Even if GameStop lied to me about MIDI adapters for guitars (wouldn't be surprised) someone will come up with homebrew technology for it.

@Shadowsquire: the divided pickup sends information about the pitch of each individual string. I can only play that pitch in one place on each string (The midi controller differentiates an E2 and an E3 for example).   I'm not assuming that I will be able to plug the pickup directly into the box in order for it to work. The device they are selling is far to cheap to be anything more than something to pass through.

What I want to know is that if I connect the synthesizer I plug my guitar into to the game, will that work? I don't see that scenario being any different than a keyboard. They should be getting all the information they need that way.

Cause it's the one that everybody knows, thanks to MTV in the 90's. "
Take A Picture was pretty popular in 2000.

And Hey Man, Nice Shot was already in Guitar Hero World Tour.  Harmonix don't need to be using that game's sloppy seconds.

Oh God... I'd love to play but it's all so overwhelming.  I still can't wrap my head around all this stuff.  I wonder if the Power Gig guitar will be compatible with this game.

I play some guitar in real life but watching the expert pro just seems insane.

The way they present those chords with numbers as they're falling down the fretboard doesn't seem intuitive enough to sightread it in the same way using different colors and shapes was in the original GH and Rock Band games.
