Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine Sneaks Into Digital Stores Next Week

I adore Austin Wintory's soundtrack for this, but I'll probably just put Notorious B.I.G.'s "Gimme the Loot" on repeat while I play.

Yeah, it'll be nice to see what this is like. I just feel that I've been hearing about this game for way too long that I'm not all that excited for it, just obligated... which is kind of weird.

I honestly thought this came out awhile ago, but it still looks very cool. Lots of crazy systems on display.......kind of overwhelming.

@chiablo: Normally I'd think you were being condescending for no reason, but I sort of agree. I wish they had gone with a different aesthetic, even GTA 1 style.

@radioactivez0r: I'm just getting sick and tired of EVERY indie game having pixel art graphics. For example, look at the trailer for Super Time Force. It's obvious that they have talented artists and animators, so why the fuck is their game pixel art?

I see your point and I feel kind of the same. However, sticking to retro helps keeping art cost/risk low and guarantee you a certain audience (i.e. a lot of indie customers dig retro gaming).

Personally i think that the pixel art of indie games is overdone now. It was fine when development was happening with one guy in his spare time who mainly wanted to get a cool mechanic out and in public hands, but c'mon. This wasn't meant to become THE aesthetic of indie games!! Look at Braid, FFS! You don't get more counter-industry than Jonathon Blow and HE even prettied up his title before releasing it!

That said, I do mostly enjoy the look of this game. I'm afraid that it may not be quite as cool as this trailer makes it out to be.

To be fair, Braid kind of pre-dated the whole current movement. If anything, it kicked it off.

God dammit, Alex, I already made that joke when Diablo 3 came out, but I didn't have such a public platform. You're now the Carlos Mencia of lazy internet humor.

A lot of indie customers are also a bunch of hipster ding dongs, so there you go.

I so very much wish these days this done to death artstyle would do just that - stay dead.

How about flexing those artistic muscles instead of doing copycat work of all the other copycats.

Also, Unreal Engine has nothing to do with this at all.

Looks quite a bit different from when I initially played it but if it still plays the same, it's a blast.

People who think all indie games are just retro pixel art, must be on the same wavelength of people who think the only games are CoD and Madden.

No, I won't name 30 games all with different art styles when such ignorant garbage comments don't deserve it.

Where exactly do you see me saying that every single indie game is done with pixel art? Way to put words in my mouth guy.

Also your passive aggressiveness is kind of hilarious.

You're just a victim of the quote thread, not directed specifically at you. It was @radioactivez0r saying that.

Here's a list of 30 games with different art styles btw:

Guacamelee!

The Dream Machine

Thirty Flights of Loving

Fract OSC

Don't Starve

Year Walk

Apotheon

Memory of a Broken Dimension

The Sea Will Claim Everything

Pid

Mark of the Ninja

Closure

Mirror Moon

Dustforce

Behemoth games

The Bridge

And Yet It Moves

Chasing Aurora

Limbo

Braid

But That Was Yesterday

Ray's Dead

Dishwasher Samurai

Zeno Clash

Antichamber

Tec 3001

World of Goo

Mirage

NaissanceE

@assinass: Actually, no it wasn't. I said I wish this game had a different aesthetic. @chiablo replied to me saying he was sick and tired of every indie game having pixel art, and it was obviously hyperbole. If you're going to get all high horse on someone, at least correctly identify the person you are arguing against.

Yup, it was @chiablo who made the ignorant comment, quotes on this website are weird. Although wishing a game to have a different aesthetic is pointless, the game is what it is and someone can just ignore it if an art style is really that much to dissuade them from a probably good game (see: last year and Dust An Elysian Tail).

This looks interesting. I know there's a quick look in limbo for this game. I want to see it.
