If you watch the news reporting on the current disaster in Japan, you'll notice that the name of the nuclear power plant that may or may not have a meltdown is Fukushima Daiichi.  Fukushima is where it is located, 'Dai' means basically "grand" and ichi is of course the number one.  Listen to the way it is pronounced on the Japanese clips.  It is clearly pronounce like the English word "Dye."  The 'a' is quite pronounced.  Rai would of course sound exactly the same as Japanese vowel sounds don't change like they do in English. 
 
If you speak Spanish, Japanese vowels sound exactly the same.

@Pop:  Everyone's acting like the announcer hasn't pronounced it like that (Ray-den) since the very first MK game, and in every game since. Why is it even a discussion? It's not proper Japanese, but like @csl316  said, nothing in MK is :P

We speak English. 
The Word Raiden is spelt using English characters (not Japanese). 
Why the hell are you bringing up how they say Raiden in Japanese!!!??!!  
 The people who developed the game pronounce Ray-den.

Demo confirmed that MK is still very much stuck in the past. I guess because of the strong nostalgic pull of the games that this was intentional. Similar to Duke, this is only really designed for us old fogeys who can forgive it's throwback nature.
