Samus Speaks In Metroid: Other M

Damn them for giving Samus the 12 year old anime girl treatment. I hope they flesh out the character and the universe though.

Looks good. Team Ninja makes a damn fine game.

She reminds me of Edge Mavrick from star ocean the last hope. Metroid to me has been about the exploration and gameplay and not the story.

Silly developers, thats not a metroid game! Who is the chick with the short hair and the not badass look, who isn't in a suit at all? Silliness all-around I say.  
 
I would play another 2D metroid game though. They should make one of those. Those were good. I don't think people ever really when to the metroid games for story... its not a bad story, of course, but the point was always the exploration and stuff. I miss that.

Things went downhill with the appearance of the city. They went slightly back up with the Kingdom Hearts-esque title card. However, they remained down because they forgot to work in her original backstory from the Japanese comics or whatever. You know, Ridley kills her parents, Chozo adopt her, shove their DNA into her in a non-sexual way, give her a form fitting suit in a totally sexual way, all that stuff. Yes, objections, lady!

Taking on a Metroid game is a tough gig. I remember how disappointed I was with the FPS treatment during Prime and planned on skipping it. But I ended up enjoying Metroid Prime and was pleasantly surprised. I think this series benefits from a less-is-more kind of thing but that gets hard to maintain with more sequels. Samus had a lot of dialogue in Fusion and Zero Mission so this doesn't seem totally crazy. However, the art design and execution is another matter entirely. I admit, I'm getting a Final Fantasy vibe from the whole thing and it's totally clashing with the expectations I have from other Metroid games.
 
I'm hoping that Team Ninja can bring over the best parts of the crazy Ninja Gaiden style action for gameplay. Hard to say about the story, but I'm not expecting much.

There's a sinister blonde woman running a government  bioweapons program Samus is involved with somehow. I'm guessing "M" stands for "Mother."  Also Samus is going to be clone and there will be anime angst. "

Is it just me or is "Other M" a horrid title for a game?

That thumbs down she gives is the same attitude I have for this game.

What are they doing to Samus? The anime treatment probably won't treat her well. I'm ok with storytelling in Metroid, but don't make it melodramatic.

I hate stuff like this. This tells us absolutely nothing. Zero! Zilch! Nada! 
 
Well actually, there is one thing it tells me. It tells me is that Nintendo has a completely different idea of what Samus looks like than I do.

I just went from kind of excited about this game to "I could not care less" about this game in oooooh about a minute and eighteen seconds.

I like how people are judging this based on a cinematic flashback (as in, she's not a bounty hunter yet), presumably appearing in the very first chapters of the game. 

Get your anime bullshit out of my Metroid.

Man, that was a little underwhelming, not that I was expecting much in the first place.
 
@Riboflavin: Agreed! I'd love another 2D game. Shadow Complex proved that there is still a demand for it. Less in-your-face story, and more exploration, I say!

Haters gonna hate I guess, I think this looks like the most interesting Metroid game so far. Probably the first I will consider getting on launch day. About time they fleshed out the character and universe some.

Jennifer Hale is no longer her voice, so I have lost all interest in this game.

Man, I think this game is really shaping up to be something special.  I don't understand why so many people are rebelling against a significant update/chance taken to a stalwart Nintendo franchise. 
Not to mention, Samus is looking a lot better than she has in the past.  Now she actually looks tough, and not just like one of those cookie-cutter video game heroines.

Definitely needs more "Remember me?"
