If anyone's going to take this into animu territory, it's them. Not to burn them at the stake or anything, they do make good games. Why I still think this game'll be kind of alright. The script will obviously be the same, I'm not stupid. Voice actors make all the difference when it comes to delivering a script and Jennifer Hale's constantly proven to be one of the best VAs in the industry. I feel like that's a loss.    Don't know you're on your high horse here, I'm just saying they lost me regarding Samus' persona in the game. Not like I'm flying the crusader banner of hatred or anything.  "

Her new look and the direction Team Ninja is taking, under Nintendo's supervision, does not appeal to me one bit.   Grid-based maps, powerups and sidescrolling sure does, though. "

Voice acting sounds good. I'm interested to see more game play aside from the stuff shown in past trailers. From all the talk that's come out of the media summit it sounds like it will play vastly different from the prime games and more in line with the 2d stuff.

   
They gave her short Metrosexual boy hair, she looks nothing like samus and looks nothing like metriod from what they showed here. I'm hoping it will still be good , but it's not doing it for me atm.

Clearly most Japanese game developers should just have stopped at 16 bits and continued to make games for the SNES. Stuff like this is dumb.

something about this is oddly captivating to me. maybe it's the incongruence with the fact she later turns into a fucking bomb shitting ball and collects power ups and wastes aliens like nothing. 
 
i've never played any newer metroid game past the first prime (save for some gba games that might have come out later), but those games, even the first one where it was made a point that samus was female, have always nudged at the idea that there's a deeper well of character to be drawn from. metroid has always benefitted from subtleties so i hope they don't screw anything up. the final fantasy-ness of her feathery hair and face doesn't bother me at all.

Turning Metroid in to bad melodramatic anime is exactly what I've always wanted out of the franchise.

Looks good to me, not sure what everyone's problem is. Then again, I'm no Metroid purist, so i guess I wouldn't know what I'm talking about anyway. Am curious to see more.

Ok, so after listening through it a bit and getting used to the voice (which is never gonna sound just like I imagined it in my head) , I still can't get over the "thumbs down" part.

I'm not really digging the art direction. It's way to Japanese, if you know what I mean. It doesn't have that real gritty, dark, 1979 "Alien" feel to it. I don't mind the inclusion of an in-depth story or voice acting at all, but the art direction just doesn't sit well with me. I just feel like it's lost it's Western sci-fi influences that originally made it so special. 
 
Edit: I will wait to see what more Team Ninja has to show me, as this is just a very brief judgment based on what I saw in the video. It may end up being different that the initial impression that I got.

Wasn't Metroid as popular as it was all over the the world because there was "no story"? Now it's obviously Japanese and while that's not a bad thing... it's going to turn some people off.

I didn't know that Samus lived on Coruscant?!? Where is her lightsaber?

Metroid fusion had a very prominent story.  It was alright.

This doesn't make me feel anything either way, really.  Not enough information there.
 
Yet somehow others are able use this to deduce how the entire game and its plot will unfold.  Interesting.

Wooden voice work, bad dialogue, Samus looks like a 12-year old, great signs so far.

She looks like a little boy, all she needs now is an over sized sword and a talking animal sidekick.

Why is Samus a preteen boy? This looks terrible. Nintendo can't afford decent CG work and voice actors? WTF.

*sigh* the game isn't even out yet and everyone's bashing it, or complaining about what she looks like. -Cause she dosen't look like some Malibu large chested barbie- What is with you Fanboy's? Sometimes change is a good thing, give it a chance before you start your complaining. 
 
Sound like the FF purists who are complaining about the Leona Lewis song that's set as the FF 13 theme instead of a random Japanese one.

I think it's an interesting idea to have Samus talk after all these years. Very anxious when the game comes out.
