Skyward Sword's Fi Properly Wasting Fools in Hyrule Warriors

No, I'd be happy for Bayonetta 2's existence regardless of what platform it came out on. I just wouldn't passively-aggressively bemoan it if it were coming out for a console I didn't own or had no interest in owning. And if I felt strongly enough about Bayonetta 2 and it were coming out on the Xbox One as an exclusive, well, that would be a tough decision for me to make, because on the one hand, I want to play Bayonetta 2, but on the other, I'd otherwise still have no interest in an Xbox One and would, at least at the time of purchase, only be buying the console for that one game. On the other hand, I'd then have an Xbox One in the event that other games for the console caught my eye.

I'm happy to agree to disagree. But either way, whether it existed on the Xbox One or not at all wouldn't be one in the same because the game would exist, and the temptation would still be there. Plugging your ears and singing "La la la" doesn't make something not exist.

How is my view selfish though? I've at no time advocated that I actively don't want this game to exist. I have merely lamented the fact that a large part of the core fan base will probably not experience it because they probably won't purchase an entire system for one game. Am I disappointed? Yah. Am I bitter? Yah a little. Am I being selfish in having these personal feelings about the situation? Absolutely not.

Not to get aggressive and devolve this into a full fledged argument - but if anyone is being selfish here it is you in trying to push your opinions on me as apparently the "right" ones, while simultaneously attempting to evoke some sort of guilt for being disappointed in not being able to enjoy a sequel to a game that I'm a huge fan of.

So let's just agree to disagree. I don't mind that this game is coming out one bit. For those out there with a Wii U thats great, enjoy it. For people like myself that don't find Nintendo games especially appealing and aren't going to waste money on purchasing an entire system for 1 game, then whether it exists on Nintendo or it doesn't exist at all is pretty much one and the same thing.

That's because I find your perspective to be selfish and untenable. There's no guarantee that any other party would have been willing to fund Bayonetta 2, either in the current timeframe or at any point in the future. Engaging in that speculative debate is moot at this point anyway, as what you apparently would have preferred isn't what happened. If the choice is between Nintendo or No One, I'll take Nintendo.

@hailinel: in a way it is their fault because they could have held out for a publisher that would allow them to put their game out on multiple systems, which would also bring with it an opportunity for more sales.

But I digress. If I sound bitter then that's probably because I am a little. I understand your perspective but you seem to be unable to empathize with mine.

That you won't "get" to play it either way is neither Platinum's fault nor Nintendo's. Needlessly passive aggressive comments like it being a "damn shame about Bayonetta" do little but make you sound bitter.

The sticking point is there weren't enough fans to support the game. To advocate for the idea that Platinum should come back with Bayonetta 2 and say "hey guys, I know you didn't have enough money in your pockets last time, but we really need you to dig deeper this time" is illogical.

I largely do not care about Nintendo games, but I actually bought a wiiu (the $200 refurbished one) in order to play Bayonetta 2. So, it sold at least one system. Maybe a little too eager of me, since it isn't even out. Played some mario kart 8 at least though, that game is pretty fun.

@turambar: Yah but in this situation it's not the fault of the "fans" that the game didn't sell - they bought the game, they supported the developer. So this mentality that why should they cater to the only people that bought their game in the first place is a bit misguided. Bottom line is that it didn't sell that great, and character action games have continued to reach lackluster sales figures. Faced with continuing to build on your existing base or trying your luck with a completely new one, from a business perspective it's extremely risky to start over. That said it's always better to make some money rather than make no money. So go figure. I'm sad that I won't get to play Bayonetta 2, but I'm hopeful this isn't the last we see of the series.

Given Bayonetta's low sales which caused this in the first place, if the "original fans" don't number high enough to warrant it's continued existence, why should Platinum place so much stock on them? If Platinum does attract publisher money for a third game on the PS4 and Xbone, relying on your group alone will make that game a financial failure as well.

To put it another more brutal way, anyone claiming to want the best for Bayonetta should be quite happy that half the original fans are being discarded and set aside. (A little harsh? Yeah probably.)

@turambar: It's a back and forth argument I've had several times now and I'm of the mind that it doesn't really matter if it exists if only a fraction of the original fans will actually play it. In the grand scheme of things yah, I agree it's better that there is a game rather than there being no game at all - but only if it means they will somehow make enough money to attract a publisher which will help them put out another Bayonetta on next-gen systems.

To me this has always been as if the next big Halo was to come out on the Wii U all of a sudden. Like cool, I guess, but not that great for the actual fans. Bayonetta 2 on Wii U might help spread awareness and attract new fans, but it has always been a bummer for people like myself that are simply not interested in Nintendo games and would never even consider buying a Nintendo console.

Yep. If the options are "Nintendo platform" or "No platform at all," would you really prefer the latter option?

I don't see that as a shame at all when the alternative is not the game being out for more other platforms, but rather the game not being out period.

@turambar: it's a shame that it's coming out on a platform that a large percentage of it's fanbase does not own. Although that is a statistic I pulled out of my butt, I just assume that a large group of people that are way into Character Action games are probably not Wii U owners - which isn't that far from the truth since statistically from a sales perspective, not many people are Wii U owners period.

This is the first one of the preview vids I've watched and really noticed the framerate slowdown hitting. I know there's visually a lot going on in these games, but I really wish they'd knock that aspect out for once.

I know Dynasty Warriors gets a lot of shit, but I think I'll get this. The more I see of it, the better the impression it leaves on me.

No reviewer is perfectly objective. A reviewer can strive for objectivity, but there will always come a point were personal preferences weigh against the inherent qualities of whatever they're reviewing. That's why, for example, I would never personally trust a Jeff-written review of a Dynasty Warriors game.

He's a reviewer capable of being objective. Smash Brothers is not his thing, and he has said as much.

Jeff gave Brawl a four-star review, dude. That's pretty positive.

Klip Klop posted it, and he said he liked the game at E3.

Ain't nobody on the Giant Bomb staff that likes Smash Brothers.

More specifically, it's a crossover between a bunch of different Zelda games and they're having fun with the characters, so they can do a bunch of things that don't necessarily "make sense," like Agitha being able to summon giant spectral insects to take out swaths of enemies.

Dynasty Warriors games dogg, they have tons of nonsensical things that don't technically make sense.

(I didn't finish Skyward Sword but) It's possible because it's not canon. So far the game mashes up characters from OoT, MM, TP and SS.

@def: If you think that finding chests with special items is in any way different from any other warriors game you are sadly mistaken. One of the biggest driving forces behind these games is the massive loot grind. I've played Hyrule Warriors at E3 and it is totally just another Warriors game with a Zelda coat of paint. I'm fine with that. I love the Warriors games. You know who doesn't love the warriors games? People who have never played one but watched a kinda-shitty quick-look and think they know what they are about. (Ok, and lots of other people too, but still...)

Anyway, I hope that if you play and like HW you'll give some of the other warriors games a chance. Though, as they are pretty similar, you might want to give it some space :)

@xbob42: Speak for yourself bob. There are a lot of us that like the Warriors games. They went through kind of a long slog of mediocre versions in the PS3/360 era, but DW2/3/4 and Samurai Warriors were great. And DW8 is back to being pretty great. There is massive amounts of loot, tons of characters to unlock, a huge number of different play modes... I think if you're not having fun with DW8, you're just playing the wrong character on the wrong difficulty.

And then you remember this isn't Dynasty Warriors but Hyrule Warriors with different gameplay elements (find areas with chests that have special items, fight bosses with Zelda-typical puzzle-y weaknesses) thrown into the mix and way more approachable characters/universe and you got something that looks way more interesting than your bog-standard Dynasty Warriors game.
