This is an enlightening video. Coverage usually (understandably) focuses on a few high-profile failures and then the mediocre to successful (in terms of sales) range of games. But, as I understand it, a large majority of games are neither high-profile nor even mediocre - they may be low quality or they may simply be commercial failures. The normal coverage paints a bit more of a positive picture of the industry (as one full of opportunity and success) than it actually is. The reaction of depression to a video like this is really just a full appreciation of how the industry actually IS.

Interesting idea, as suspected a fair bit of it is Jeff staring at empty lobbies. Sadly this is the fate of nearly all multiplayer-only games in the end; eventually the player base moves on.

My idea for a multiplayer game is a variant on the falling block genre where the player is encouraged to make specific shapes, such as boxes -- which may be silver or gold depending on their contents -- for bonus points.

@sparky_buzzsaw: This is an old thread, but I wanted to add one more to those that disagree with you. A call-to-arms to get the GB community together to play an indie game online is, by definition, a tacit endorsement for the game. You are essentially asking the community to buy the game in hopes of getting to play with staff members of the site. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the reasons why Thursday Night Throwdown was cancelled.

@auzurafi: In Psyonix's case, it also helps to be the PS+ featured game in a month. That had an immense impact on that games success.

This video is making me wish Toxikk had a bigger community. Such a good shooter, but just no community to keep it going.
