Going into the sewers is never a good idea, especially when creatures from a deranged doctor are chasing you.

I'm not exactly the most easily frightened person, but I never felt tense or afraid while playing through Outlast.

I hope Patrick likes Dark Souls, honestly when I was playing it my first time it was scarier and more tense than any horror game I've played.

I played through Sepulchre and I'm not entirely sure what I think of it. Anyone else play it? It seemed like it was just too obvious too early where it was going, so while it was kind of unnerving, the payoff doesn't really go anywhere because it wasn't foreshadowed so much as it was "these guys are talking so specifically this can only end one way"

DS isn't so scary in my opinion but it sure has its tense moments, especially Tomb of the Giants.

@patrickklepek If you do delve into Dark Souls, you have, have, have to play the PC version. The framerate in Blighttown on console versions is just embarrassing, and beyond disorienting and nauseating, plus it's incredibly frustrating while dealing with the status ailments that area relentlessly throws at you. You can get used to it if you play 3000 hours of the game like me, but I suspect you won't be doing that.

This is becoming quite a show! I think you should put a message in about underage drinking, you do drink responsibly though so prob. good for some youngsters to see someone enjoying a good bevie without going over the top.

Outlast genuinely terrifies me in a way only Amnesia was able to do before. Can't wait for Outlastnesia on Wednesday!

Patrick you may have answered this before but what are you using to get the night vision look from your camera?

A night vision camera...

This is my favourite reply.

Would be cool to have an interview with Thomas Grip who worked on Amnesia, he has a good blog.

Exactly! I was also thinking of Thomas Grip when Patrick mentioned talking to developers about horror games.

Patrick's continued obliviousness to simple pronunciations is both adorable and vexing.

Sepulch-ray, indeed.

It's weird. When I played through the section with the water and the "little pig" guy, I pretty much never saw him. I just heard him in the distance and saw the water lapping in my direction. It was kinda more terrifying. It was only when I was about to escape did I catch a glimpse of of his eyes.

I finally remembered to play Sepulchre. And yeah, I had a similar reaction to you, though I'd phrase it more as "These guys are talking way too vaguely and nonchalantly that this can only end one way".

Patrick didn't comment on it, but I kinda liked that at one or two points when things get unnerving, a high pitched frequency gradually increases in volume. The first time it happens is in the bar with Floyd. Also, I really like the Floyd sequence, because the whole sequence seemed like a good reference to The Shining.

HA! When Patrick ran into the aggressive guy in the cell block it went EXACTLY like when I ran into the situation. Great knowing I'm not along in my futile efforts.

I just got to the male ward in Outlast last night and wanted to get a staggered schedule going of watching Patrick go through the same sections I've been going through (after I go through them, of course), and I don't know, sometimes he's really fun to watch but man, he does the thing I always hateabout experiencing horror with other people: trying to cope with the fear by talking over it. Some people make jokes and undermine the horror by laughing. Patrick analyzes.

It's fine to have a coping mechanism and maybe it's masochistic of me to wish he'd just stop talking so much or taking so much time explaining the mechanics or reading the notes and just immerse himself, but I'm the type who internalizes fear rather than externalizes it. I don't try to mitigate the fear; I just embrace it. Otherwise why bother?

I'm probably being too harsh. It's not a Patrick thing. Lots of people do that. Just kind of a pet peeve.

Also, yeah, that last bit of the sewer is fuuuuucked. I clawed my way around the edges and wasted all but one battery before I finally made it out. Pretty brilliant section, visually and design-wise. Lots of Outlast is just jump scares, sure, but I don't look at that as being some awful pejorative. They're cheap, but they're effective, and the game does a fantastic job making you dread the next one. The best jump scares are the ones you know are coming and still jump anyway.
