This Is What Splinter Cell: Blacklist Looks Like on the Wii U

It's like, how did we even fight terrorism before we had tablet controllers?

Looks distracting and gimmicky. Just give me four buttons, some triggers, a d-pad and two analog sticks. Of course a Wii U owner may disagree, which is fine.

A little ironic since a modern controller has at least 12 buttons scattered around it despite only having 10 fingers, and no less than 3 directional controls despite only having two thumbs.

While I doubt I'll ever play this game, at least these methods of input feel more integrated and discoverable than shoulder buttons that might throw a grenade, or duck, or aim, or take cover, depending on the game. This seems like a good use of the tech to me and will hopefully keep the visual noise on the main game screen down significantly.

In my case I have 124 keys and my mouse has 17 and somehow I don't ever have to take my eyes off the action. The number of input options you have won't distract you if you know your way around it - while having to pay attention to two screens can be very distracting. But then I find a DS distracting so I'm not really one to judge.

Either way I love Ubisoft for trying and hopefully it'll put some wind in the WiiU's sails.

edit: nevermind, I saw the "how U will play next" thing at the end, all hope is lost.

When the control scheme is the main selling point for your console and its games, there's a HUGE problem. How is the wii u going to push gaming forward, besides slightly changing up the way things control? It should have been a more powerful console instead of adding a cool, but needless tablet controller (which is actually a pretty shitty tablet). And no, I'm not a graphics whore; more powerful=less limitations. You want devs to have complete control over the console (to be able to mold it to their will) and the wii u won't allow for that.

I find using the Wii U gamepad for most things distracting. Taking your attention away from the main screen is disruptive to gameplay. Perhaps this game will have something new but doing any of these gamepad tasks more than a few times often becomes tiresome. When game mechanics become a chore you lose the audience.

I'll be getting this on 360.

I'm not one of the people that complain about Fisher gone, but why did Grim have to get another voice as well? Oh well. I just find it awkward; then again, I don't know who played Grim in the past games so she could be too old to do mocap... I guess.

I really hope there's a cool black guy to round out Sam's terror-fightin' friendsquad.

Nintendo should be showing these type of commercials on TV.

I'm on board with this game since they've shown off the stealth demo. That initial E3 reveal was terrible.

I feel like Ubisoft has done a better job promoting the Wii U than Nintendo has... with this trailer alone lol

Sam never said a word in this trailer. Its as if they know they are supposed to have Michael and are scared to let the new guy talk.

One thing I love about the Wii U is that they put a lot of the HUD items on the gamepad. It frees up the TV screen quite a bit.

I'm really liking my Wii U. Probably even more so after this Spring firmware update.

Taking a bit of a cue from Criterion (and some of their bros at other parts of Ubi) in putting some real gosh darn effort behind a WiiU version of a high profile third party title. I'll let my wallet speak up

Those Wii U Gamepad options are what can make shooters (or games with vast inventories) fun on Wii U. As great as Blacklist would look on PC I may get it for Wii U, just so I can use it.

The idea of tapping to select execute targets sounds like it would be a lot easier than lining up a cursor with your analogue sticks and hitting the 'mark' button, it worked pretty well in Conviction but wasn't 100% perfect at responding to how you wanted it to. Some cool stuff going on in this version, now it just needs to have visuals that match (or better??) the 360 and Playstation3 and an uncrappy frame rate!

Reading back what I said about it being 'easier', I came across as if using the controller to mark and execute was a hassle. It wasn't, I just wanted to make the point that touching, if it works, could possibly be more fluid and intuitive. Cool trailer anyway and as that one guy who really enjoyed Convictions action stealth approach, I am looking forward to this (yes I suck at traditional stealth games).

This video sold me on purchasing for the Wii U. Yes, i agree that picking your weapons is a little silly to show off (although much flashier than a menu on the TV screen if you ask me). But the rest of the features look stellar in my opinion. Gimmicks are tapping your Gamepad to pry open doors in ZombiU, not using it to fly drones and control security cameras.

If something needs to use "You can switch weapons" as a selling point it is probably not worth selling.

I feel like taking shots at the WiiU like in the video description is a bit cheap ... especially since some of that stuff (drone control) looks kinda neat.
