This seems like it would be a really neat and fun game if everybody on the server was actually taking it serious; which with random internet strangers is almost guaranteed to never happen.

Yes and no. Alex always needs to find who's missing their thong, but who is missing their thong changes. And the Data is basically discovered by a different person each time.

The way the game is structured is that you have people who are spies for the two oil companies who are trying to identify each other and also located the Data so they can sabotage the other company. But there are some that are simply free agents; they typically will find the data, and then work to extort as much of a benefit as they can before the time limit runs out.

Each character has their own story objective as well; Alex has to find whoever is missing their thong, Malik must bless and meditate with people, Cooper is collecting signatures for his petition, etc. Those are always the same (though elements change; the person who is missing their panties changes, and that can be an additional objective for them).
The other X-factor is items. Who starts with what can be totally randomized. For example, one great item to have is the tazer, as it allows you to shock someone and steal important items from them. Especially if you're a spy, and know who has the Data, the tazer can be very useful. The downside is you have to be in a conversation with someone, either individually or as part of a group, to taze them. So if people know you have the Tazer, and they have an item they're guarding, they will deny conversations.

In short, this is the greatest game ever made.

What really made this video great is Mr. Caravella's role-playing abilities being put to the test. I was thoroughly impressed and wildly entertained. It makes a lot of sense how he took so naturally to the Pathfinder feature. Damn, we're never getting that again. :( V-Bomb meditate now...

It's randomized for the most part. Either you're one of the spies from the competing oil companies, the data seller, a thief looking to steal and re-sell the data, or just sometimes a random dude on the boat with no serious objective. Though I think each has their own missions unique to the character. Usually Alex has the thong, Dunlop has the orphan, and Mary has to collect the passports. I played a Mary once where she had to collect all the passports of the other players while also being a spy for one of the corporations. Then another game where she wasn't a spy and just had to collect the red thong. It is pretty different each time you play it even with multiple characters.

This is just great. Are the missions you get randomized or do all the characters have the same thing? Like is Alex always the guy who finds the data and wakes up with a thong?

Just played two games. One where I was Alex, which was just amazing. Everyone played along and it was real goofy. In the second one though two people were afk, and one person was just typing in all caps and being dumb. I feel like I just saw both sides of the spectrum with this game.
