Great job Patrick. I hope you do more of these for games that otherwise don't get much coverage and putting your thoughts in to this 6-minute video is probably more effective than an article or a lengthy review.

Interesting, the format needs abit of refinement, but overall nice balance between informative and entertaining.

The Dreaming about the past bit was just bad.

Just my 2 cents.

Cool video. Although it feels more like a review without a score rather than an essay with a larger point.

Compare this video essay to this and tell me that YouTubers and streamers are the next generation or video games journalism.

I hope that GiantBomb and similar sites don't go anywhere.

EDIT: Good job Klip Klop, keep up the good work

It's titled 'Video Thing' on YouTube @patrickklepek ??

Fantastic video! I really want to play this when I get a chance. Personally I was also a HUGE fan of the 3D Bionic Commando! The ending - SPOILERS HEHE - not even just the arm stuff but all the Joe speeches and crazy valkyries mechs it was like some bad Kojima rip. I'm like you and love a good grappling game (we need more!) so I enjoyed the swinging. So good/dumb ahahaha. Anyway, i'm really enjoying these types of video content and can't wait to see more. Good stuff!

EDIT: also you made a Can't Stop Dreaming song joke and didn't use Daryl Hall...? I'm upset.

also small note - I would maybe say the audio mix is a little off when some of the music kicks in.

@generalbison:

That channels is cheating tho. Too easy to point at that.

Anyway. Those this game have a FOV of 30 or something?

What was the point of the video? Felt like a review.

I don't think you should be ashamed of enjoying Bionic Commando; I have fond memories of completing that game on every difficulty setting, and really think it was under-appreciated by the general gaming populace. I just played the game for what it was without bringing a bunch of expectations to the table, and as such had a really good time with it for a few weeks.

I like this format, and enjoyed both this and the previous one about Kinect. Just one nit-pick though, @patrickklepek, The black and white section, with whatever music that was, was jarring. It detracted from the rest of the video. I love the format of these and your insight and opinions. That section wasn't needed in my opinion, and the video works better without it. It seemed like a forced 'goof-ball' moment, when it would've been better to play it straight. Keep up the good work!

@patrickklepek I like what you're trying to do but there's still some work to be done on the delivery and production side. Two quick, hopefully, constructive remarks: (1) try to resolve the popping when you talk. Apparently the pop filter you use is not sufficient; (2) especially in the beginning, I felt you were kind of unsure which resulted in very uneven enunciation. You have the tendency to start off too fast and gradually find a rhythm, which made it difficult to catch what you were saying while I was also busy doing other stuff. Obviously, this gradually got better once you got going.

@patrickklepek

Great job Patrick. Really enjoyed this video and hope these essays become a mainstay. One thing to note: Found the transition to the Bionic Commando footage then the cut to Mirror's edge a bit abrupt. It disrupted the flow of narration previously established. But in the end it did get your point across. The other shift to Jazz music near the end talking about the jumping mechanics was more seamless.

I'm sure with more edits on more videos those kinks will be ironed out. May rewatch to see if I missed anything around that cut.

Soooo.... Not sure what this is....

As an essay it sort of doesn't raise any questions or provoke any thoughts at all, and has a pretty weak conclusion about "we don't want all games to be explosive action"

It kinda just feels like a review of a game that's been mostly ignored, and will now be ignored further

I see what you were going for, and for the most part I enjoyed this video, but the little segways where you use the royalty free music as a gag reek of first-ish time editor goofs. Not to mention the weird cutoff between Patrick and "the unnamed source" who liked Bionic Commando. It sounds like Patrick's audio track got cut off.

I'm much more likely to watch a 5-6 minute video than I am to read an article on a game I only know by name alone. I feel like I'm the target here, and... Bang bang, Patrick shot me down.

Cool video @patrickklepek, when the smooth jazz kicks in, I can't help but picture you in black and white, sitting in your PI office wearing a trench coat, waiting for a damsel person in distress to walk in and ask you about what video games to play.

Also, while the swinging in Bionic Commando was pretty good, everything else was garbage. Mirror's Edge though, one of the few games that actually was more fun to play the second time around when you had a rough idea where to go and could really feel the movement.

Pretty cool. When you were playing, was the music coming from the game or was it background music of your choosing?

Yeah, I agree with this completely. When that transition happened, it threw me off and I went back a few seconds to see if the video glitched or something.

Also, count me in as another person who really liked the gameplay of Bionic Commando. Too bad about the story!

I don't know if it stood out to anybody else but the speed at which the game moves seems slow. A sense of power through movement and freedom would work better if the actual movement picked up the pace a little.

Must admit that it's fun to watch Patrick mess around with the format. I agree that the "must be dreaming" song/bit was slightly jarring but the smoky smooth jazz fit in quite well.

Real nice video patrick. When Giant bomb chooses to do it, they have some of the best produced video content around. I would definitely love to see more of this stuff.
