Everyone remembers the Digital Pictures catalog (Night Trap, Sewer Shark) and yet very few people remember the American Laser Games catalog (Mag Dog MacCree, Crime Patrol), and I think it ought to be the complete opposite. At least ALG were fully aware that their games were trash, and leaned into it.

Transformers confined to the basement because:

'Darling we are not having those out when our guests arrive.'

This video is maybe the best content the site has put up in years. This laserdisc stuff is so ridiculous that you can't help but love it. I could just watch videos of all the cutscenes in these games.

Oh man, I used to try and play these first two games, but never got anywhere in them. I had no idea what they were called.

Man I LOVED the look of the Time Traveler game in the arcade w/ the mirror "hologram" effect. But I almost never felt like putting up the money and didn't get past much of the early stuff. It was like Dragon's Lair but even more indecipherable on what they want you to actually push.

Edit: For those who never saw a cabinet in the wild, those solid color polygons in Vinny's version were physical real plastic blocks glued to the glass surface in the actual cabinet (not spinning) to just add to that look of "this is from the future and this glass is projecting these holograms up into the air". And yes, with the optical illusion it produced, you could reach your hand in and have it pass through the "projected" characters but touch the blocks.

How have I never seen that Time Traveler game before? I'm fascinated now, what a beautiful disastrous mess.

This was so much fun to watch. One of the best GB streams in a while. Instant classic material.

I recognized that first game from somewhere, probably an arcade in a casino at Lake Tahoe where my parents used to leave me while they went and gambled. I didn't recognize the others, but man, they're terrible in the best way possible.

I vividly remember seeing that huge Time Traveler machine and being blown away. I played it once and never touched it again. God, that game sucked.

My favorite FMV stuff is the Tex Murphy series of games.

I need to go back and play them this weekend.

People also always sleep on Taito. I'm not sure if Time Gal or Revenge of the Ninja/Ninja Hayate had arcade releases outside of Japan but it was cool experiencing them in awful grainy glory on the Sega CD.

God, I love FMV games. You can count the legitimately good FMV games on one hand (not counting modern self-aware ones), but the "good" ones are endless, and often more entertaining for their lack of quality.

My FMVinny wishlist is as follows: Shivers 1 and 2, Harvester, 11th Hour, Maabus (okay, Maabus barely counts, but I just want to see someone at GB play it).

EDIT: Holy sweet baby Moses, the Crime Patrol games are INCREDIBLE. How have I never seen these!? Every damn frame is comedy platinum.

This stream made me want 2 things, a GB GOTY 2018 video in the style of Crime patrol, and for the "remember the time reversal cube" wizard to become a transition. thanks Vinny!

@vinny, how do you keep the kids away from the toys? My dad had ("had": past tense) an extensive collection of Matchbox cars, that was worth real money. Then I came along, and that was the end of that. Your stuff is way cooler - I don't know how you manage it.
