Overview
VRITRA is a fantasy side-scrolling shoot-'em-up developed and published by Salvo Inc. (later as Neotro) for iOS and Android devices on December 13, 2012.
Based on Hindu mythology, VRITRA has players guide the dragon god Indra as he uses ancient treasure Vajras to destroy the forces of his arch-enemy, the evil dragon emperor Vritra. The game features simple touch-based controls, with multiple companion units (Vajras) that function similar to "Options" in the Gradius series (and "Bits" in the R-Type series) and a "Boost" button for a rechargable burst of increased attack power.
It was later ported to the PC on August 30, 2018 as VRITRA Complete Edition.
A new remake exclusively for arcades (using exA-Arcadia hardware) was released on November 1, 2020 as VRITRA HEXA. The arcade version features two-player multiplayer, an arranged soundtrack, new stages/enemies with branching stage paths, nidden last boss and a customizable loadout system. A caravan mode has also been added for score attack enthusiasts.
