    Overview

Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5 is a street racing game developed and released by Namco Bandai for arcades (using PC-based Namco System ES3 hardware) in Japan on March 12, 2014. It was later released in mainland Asia (on October 22, 2014) and North America (on March 8, 2017, renamed to Maximum Tune 5).

The fifth installment of the Maximum Tune series (based on the manga series Wangan Midnight), Maximum Tune 5 improves upon its predecessor with a new online service for bonus features (Wangan Maxi .NET), new vehicles and courses, and a new game mode (Extreme VS, which reverses all courses and hides key HUD information).

The game later received two major updates: one in August 8, 2015 (sub-titled "Maximum Tune 5DX") and one in December 15, 2016 (sub-titled "Maximum Tune 5DX+"). Both versions add new vehicles, courses, and music.

Online functionality for the Japanese and Asian versions were later discontinued on February 1, 2017.
