Yes, its great. The first Dawn of War game had the best campaign by far. At least I thought so.

If you are buying bundles on Steam, it's best to wait until the Christmas sales. Last year the Dawn of War collection was ludicrously cheap.

But in answer to your question, it's alright, the multiplayer was were it was at, though good luck getting a game now.

If I remember correctly, I had a blast with the campaign. You should definitely buy it when the steam sale starts.

They've just added Dawn of War to the THQ Humble Bundle for paying over the average. It looks like the three expansions aren't included (though at the rate they're adding games to the Bundle, who knows).

Also, Dawn of War is great.

The original's campaign was regarded as anywhere from merely decent, to being pretty great. In all honesty- the main criticism I remember some leveling at the campaign was simply the fact that you only play as the Space Marines and never get to touch any of the other factions.

As a previous poster mentioned though, the multiplayer was where it was at for Dawn of War 1 and pretty much all of its expansions. You can partially rectify the dead multiplayer through the skirmish mode, since the AI can be entertaining until you get too used to each difficulty level's scripts. :P

If you come to really like the original's campaign- you'll probably like Winter Assault's campaign as well, especially if you want the chance to control the non-Space Marine factions in a campaign.

Take note though- the campaigns of all the dawn of war entries after Winter Assault: from Dark Crusade all the way to Dawn of War 2 and its expansions, are completely different beasts. The series pretty much left the standard linear RTS campaign structure behind after Winter Assault.

I have only fond memories of the originals campaign, so I would recommend it.

I thought it was pretty good. Very different than your standard RTS game. Much more focused on micro-managment than base building. I never played the expansions or 2 but I liked the campaign of the original.

After reading this thread and alt tabbing to Steam I happened to notice that at some point I had installed DOW and all the expansions and had forgotten about it. Now I'm going to play that for the rest of the night. Thanks!

Dawn of War + Winter Assault had some of my favorite rts campaigns. The other expansions used the strategic map, although it's great for the tactics and non linearity of the campaign, the story is non existent in this later ones.

Not nearly as good as DOW2.
