    An MMORPG based on the Games Workshop franchise developed by Mythic Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. Some of the features were brutal RvR battles (Realm vs Realm) and siege warfare. Warhammer Online was shut down December 18th, 2013.

    Took em long enough. That game's been on life support for years now. Being run by EA, not that I think they're "evil" or any of that bullshit, I'm genuinely surprised it took them this long to shut it down. I truly feel for anyone affected, but I cannot say I am surprised by any means.

    Yeah, they totally should do a new "death of an mmo-thing". They have missed some since Star Wars: Galaxies though I think.

    WAR was actually really fun, up until about level 25. I think they didn't do enough to differentiate themselves from WoW and as a result it got lost in the mix of fantasy MMO's.

    I have far more positive memories of WAR than I do negative. I think Mythic was a little overly ambitious, and created content that required other people to assist with in every zone, not realizing that the fall-off rate would be so high that it became impossible to do this cool content.

    I only played for a few months, but loved the story content and PvP. WAR is what I wish Guild Wars 2 was... Good story-driven quests that aren't instanced and good character progression.

    The cool bits:

    Arena PvP was really fun at early levels. In fact, I wish the free-to-play game they released was just the PvP portion of WAR instead of being more akin to a MOBA. At later levels, crowd control became a little crazy and overpowered. Getting stunlocked to death is not fun.

    Non-symmetrical teams. Instead of having identical classes on each side, there were some very distinct differences between the chaos and order. This made it a lot more fun and challenging, and gave you a reason to start a new character.

    I always wanted to try the BlackGuard, so if anyone wants to make a chaos group, let me know.

    Tempted to download it again and jump back in, but I've never been around for the end of an MMO. Just seems like it would be really sad in a way. Although, this way I would actually see some endgame stuff. Game got kinda boring after the early levels.

    I played this game at launch. It was pretty rad but my system couldn't keep up. Public group quests were a big thing and now that idea is in many other moms so the legacy lingers on.

    Actually according to the idiot who was originally the lead developer on it. No surprise he lost his job at Mythic within the month of the games launch.

    I really enjoyed this for a month or so at launch, something about the open world PvP and group objectives just felt right, but there was little to no variation after the first couple of zones and the player base fell off fast.
