    Overview

Astérix and the Great Rescue is a side-scrolling action-platformer based on the Astérix comic books. As either Astérix or his companion Obelix, players make their way through a series of levels in pursuit of their kidnapped friends Getafix and Dogmatix. To assist with traversing the levels, the duo can pick up ball items that create temporary platforms to help them reach greater heights. Levels range from the local Gaulish forest to the Alps and the city of Rome.

Astérix and the Great Rescue was the third Astérix game to be released on the Master System, the second for Game Gear, and the first for the Genesis/Mega Drive. It was also one of the few Astérix video games to see a North American release. On Mega Drive, it would eventually be followed up by 1995's Astérix and the Power of the Gods.
