Empires: Dawn of the Modern world is a historical real time strategy game released October 21, 2003 for the PC. Empires was developed by Stainless Steel Studios and published by Activision. The game requires players to collect resources, build an empire, train military units, and conquer opposing civilizations. The game covers five playable eras, from medieval times to World War II.

Empires features three campaigns each based in a different time period following a historical military mastermind:

    • Richared the Lionheart's revolt against his father, King Henry, and war with Phillip II of France of the late 12th century in England.
    • Admiral Yi Sun-Sin battles against the invading Japanese in the Imjin Wars during the 1590's.
    • General George S. Patton from the American invasion of the Vichy French, North Africa, and the invasion of Berlin during World War II.

The game received positive reception, but was constantly compared to Stainless Steel Studios previous release, Empires Earth, in 2001, as if it was an unofficial sequel.

The game became available on Steam on August 30, 2007, and was removed from the service in 2009.
