Captain Comic was one of the first side-scrolling platformers developed for PC.


Overview

The Adventures of Captain Comic is an action platformer developed for PC (Platform) by Michael Denio as shareware in 1988 and later ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System (Platform) by Color Dreams in 1989. The game takes place on the planet Tambi, where Captain Comic is sent to recover three important treasures.

A sequel, Captain Comic II: Fractured Reality followed in 1990.


Gameplay

The game features non-linear gameplay, with multiple paths open to the player from the start of the game. Captain Comic's main attack is hurling fireballs at enemies. the power of the fireballs is increased by collecting cans of "Blastola Cola"; the more cans that the player collects, the more fireballs that can be thrown per shot.


Nintendo Entertainment System port

Michael Denio worked with the company Color Dreams on the NES port of the game; it was released as an unlicensed title for the system. Although featuring a visual upgrade, the port contained numerous glitches.
