    DRL is a freeware Roguelike inspired by the first-person shooter franchise Doom. It contains monsters, weapons, and items inspired by Doom and Doom II, with the additions of perks, traits, classes, and a leveling-up system.

    As of version 0.9.9.6, DoomRL has a graphical tileset which is used by default. Prior to this, the game featured ASCII graphics.

    In 2016, the game's name was changed to DRL from DoomRL due to a cease and desist notice from Doom franchise rights-holder ZeniMax.
