Gravity Wars
A turn based artillery game developed in the late 1980s for IBM DOS machines. Each player tries to hit the other player's spaceship by means of torpedoes affected by the planets' gravity fields.
Overview
An Amiga port of the PC version was particularly successful as a shareware title. The player's enjoyment is derived from the skill required to achieve a successful hit and the surprising orbits resulting from shots that can result in unexpected own goals. The game has inspired many recent clones, for example there is an online java version: Death Star Battles: and "Mammoth Gravity Battles" a version that takes the concept into 3D:
