Dark Edge
GAME » on Q1 1992
Released in 1992, this Sega arcade game was an early attempt at a three-dimensional fighting game allowing players to move around in all directions. Rather than 3D polygons, the game featured advanced pseudo-3D sprite-scaling techniques.

Overview

Dark Edge is a 3D sci-fi fighting game developed and released by Sega for arcades (running Sega System 32 (Concept) hardware) exclusively in Japan in late-1992. One of the three earliest pre-Virtua Fighter (Game) fighting games by Sega (alongside Burning Rival (Game) and Holosseum (Game), both also running on the same hardware), Dark Edge is known as the first fighting game with a 3D free-movement system (using various scaling effects on 2D sprites instead of 3D polygons).
